As researchers it is our responsibility to investigate and provide evidence-based knowledge that
will have an impact on the way of a practice or a problem that we are addressing. However,
researchers must complete this task ethically. As Christian researchers, the tasks are no different.
We must work diligently. The bible has many scriptures that we as Christians researchers can use
to guide us in the way in which we must go. Romans 12:2 (English Standard Version) instructs
us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by
testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This
particular scripture is a popular one to here or read, especially when our walk with Christ is new.
It really examines the way Christians should handle themselves when face with worldly
temptations and obstacles. As a Christian researcher there will be many obstacles that we come
across during our research that will require us to think upon this scripture. First, Paul is
explaining to the Church of Rome, that as Christians they should not do as the non-Christians
just because it is the norm. To conform to a particular way of lifestyle is to give up on what you
are believing. In research, just because it might be a norm to take shortcuts or to fudge a number
or two, does not make it the right way. Paul goes on to explain that we should renew our minds,
test and see what the will of God is. As Christians, this is part of our daily routine of Prayer and
Consecration and the reding of God’s word. In research, our data collection procedures we used
allow us the ability to understand and use this scripture accordingly. God will for us as Christians
is to advance His Kingdom here on earth. In order to do that through research, we must retrieve
data through ethical procedures and ensure that the methods we are using is aligned with God’s
will for us.
