W01 Prepare: Introduction Assignment
The Book of Mormon has had a huge place of its own in my life, and as a convert who
wasn’t taught from a very young age and didn’t learned the simple answers and teachings kids
who did grow up in the church learned from their time in primary or their CTR classes, it was a
lot harder for me to understand at the age of fourteen. Something that I really found fascinating
was the fact that when I was being taught by the missionaries was the fact that I was the same
age as the Prophet Joseph Smith when he was introduced to our Heavenly Father and Savior,
Jesus Christ and what they wanted him to accomplish all on His own. I was at the age where
making friends was hard, finding a place at school was hard, even what I wanted to be when I
grew up. But as I studied the Book of Mormon, learned everything that I needed to learn and
have a better understanding of, I was baptized and have been a member since 2012 just as the
rest of my family. The Book of Mormon and the article, “By the Gift and Power of God,” By
Elder Neal A. Maxwell, has showed me how important it is to know and understand the process
of things, not just how the Book of Mormon was orchestrated and translated. The article shared
how important it is to not focus on the process and how it was created but the details within in it,
or else you’ll miss out on the true meaning of what is being revealed to you. As I go through this
semester, I would like to continue the study habits I have created throughout the many religion
courses I have taken with BYU-Idaho and utilize them to my best ability. I would also like to feel
more comfortable to be able to study the Book of Mormon and understand the background and
scriptural references and information I will study without any outside help so when there comes
a time for me to share my testimony of the Book of Mormon I would like to feel confident
enough to know what would be the right thing to share.
