As you have begun this new journey in academics, you will probably spend much time reflecting on God’s purpose
for your life and the values that have brought you to this place. Consider this text:
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. (NIV)
God has created each person with unique talents, gifts and passions that He seeks for them to discover, develop, and
use for His glory. This process includes:
Discovering who God has created you to be.
Discovering what God has called you to do, individually and corporately.
Discovering how to prepare for as well as practice your calling.
And individuals who are deeply grounded in the Christian faith are:
Willing to give expecting nothing in return.
Willing to sacrifice personal gain for truth.
Willing to forgo monetary success to pursue God’s calling on their lives.
Instructions for students: For this week’s devotional forum share with us how you are fulfilling God’s design in
your life and what grounding values you have encountered as a result of seeking to know Christ more intimately.
I have been thinking a lot about this week’s assignment. Why? Well, I am a Catholic, but this does not mean that I
cannot fulfill God’s design or seek to know Christ more intimately. When I was living in Monterrey, Mexico, I used
to be so active in my church. I was in the chorus and I also participated in many activities at my church. After I
moved to Houston, I was also active in my church, and I felt like a complete woman. As the time passed, I was not
going to church like I used to, and this make me feel a little empty inside. My grandmother always told me that we
have to go to church every Sunday to pray and give thanks to God for all the things that he gives us every day. She
also told me to pray to God every single day, because he is always listening to you. Every day, I pray to God and
also give him thanks for all the things that he gives me. God has made me a better person with my family, friends,
but especially with my husband. A year and half ago, my husband and I started to go to church every Sunday again,
and since we have been going, our lives have been better. I feel that I have a better connection with God. Another
thing, I think I am fulfilling God’s design because I am a good wife, daughter, sister, and friend. I am the kind of
person that if someone needs my help, I will be there to help that person, no matter what situation I am in at that
time. One thing that I have learned is that without God in our lives, we are nothing… we are lost!
