Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to deepen your learning from teaching
or engaging in the material outside of class.
This write-up is not
meant to be a regurgitation of the material to the teacher or solely a summary of your conversation about this course. Responses must show thought, reflection, pondering and depth with college-level writing skills. 1.
Provide a simple statement answering who you shared with.
This week I shared what I learned with my coworker
2.
In a brief paragraph, identify the questions or insights from your personal study that informed your thinking as you prepared for your discussion. What is the difference between human love and the love of the Heavenly Father?
What are the joyful and loving aspects of the law of justice?
How do the commandments benefit us instead of limiting us?
3.
In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. What was this conversation about? What direct lines or quotes from our reading material or your research were you referencing or thinking about as you had this intentional conversation? After talking with my friend I learned a lot about the importance of being able to understand the
love of God, since many times we want to be loved and justified for our mistakes, without taking
responsibility for them, but not understanding their consequences.
My co-worker began the conversation with me with the idea that "God is Love" and that that was enough for us to do whatever we wanted in this life, since hell could not be real with a God who is pure love. . However, as we talked together we learned that love is not always permissive, nor carefree, we analyzed together what the purest love between parents and children is like and we identified that in that type of love there are also rules, authority, concern and correction, something that we often wish to eliminate in God for our own convenience, I shared part of the lyrics of the hymn, "families can be eternal" and we reviewed how Jesus Christ forgave the adulterous woman and in turn sent her to sin no more.
These 2 materials allowed my partner to better understand how God's love leads us to become better, and to be able to aspire to be more like him despite our imperfections.
4.
In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. Answer the following questions: o
What deepened connections and insights did you feel because of this conversation? o
What did you agree/disagree with in your discussions? How did you handle this? o
Did anything discussed change your thinking? If so, what and how? o
How will you build on this knowledge to strengthen your family (now and/or in the future)? o
What do you feel inspired to do now that you have read the material and engaged in this conversation?
I think one of the things I was able to learn is to always turn to the scriptures to handle the questions and doubts we have, since, just as it happened to my coworker, we can often have a good desire to understand and love God. , but with a limited understanding of his character, personality and commandments we can fill the gaps of knowledge with our own perceptions, leading us to miss out on great things and knowing more about our Heavenly Father.
Although my friend started with a very different opinion than mine, I was able to see how using the scriptures and patient teaching based on cooperation and sharing made us both achieve a better understanding of things and be able to nourish each other.
