There are various beliefs regarding the gospel message in our culture even among people that call themselves Christians. Different denominations of Christianity may interpret the message slightly differently but still agree in its significance. One example would be that Catholics believe the Pope is the head of the church and you must ask for forgiveness through him. Lutherans believe that you must ask for forgiveness through prayer to Christ. Others may struggle with the idea based off the science and that the idea of someone being born as the Son of Christ and rising from the dead seems hard to believe. Even some Christians may believe in the gospel but still have questions and slight disbelief.
Significant events in one’s lives may impact a person emotionally enough that a non-Christian may not accept Christ as their Savior. Someone that may have had a loved one pass away or a traumatic event in their life may become a non-believer. Five years ago, my mother passed away after a difficult battle with cancer. Someone that may not have had strong religious beliefs prior may have struggling immensely with believing that Christ was their Savior.
Morally some non-Christians have beliefs which could cause them to not accept Christ as their Savior. An example would be if someone doesn’t have the same beliefs in what’s morally right or wrong. Another example could be that they don’t agree with some of the beliefs within the gospel making it difficult to accept Christ as their Savior. Leviticus 18:22 states,
“You shall not
lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”
Even though bible verses are viewed differently within different Christian denominations what the gospel states about topic such as homosexuality and marriage may cause someone to not believe. Someone that has strong moral views on specific views may struggle to follow the gospel and the word of Christ.
A specific intellectual reason a non-Christian may not accept Christ as their Savior would likely be based off science. Many people that have more of a scientific view on creation, look at religion as a far-fetched belief that was created by man. Some other people may struggle to believe due to not having physical evidence. There are many people that need to see such evidence in order to believe, despite having the gospel.
There are many apologetic methods Christians can share to address these reasons and better communicate the gospel message. Mark 16:15 states,
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.'”
As Christians it is important to be patient and really listen to what hesitations non-Christians may have to not accept Christ as their Savior. To not judge but take the time to help them find the answers to questions they may have.
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not
heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
Romans 10:14. The Gospel states that we should preach his word and that he understands there
will be people that may not know of him. It may be possible Christianity is something they may not have been exposed to and just need someone to help them with patience and understanding.
