Proverbs
Wisdom is the key to how to act!
I chose Chapter 6 on Proverbs. Proverbs is the most valuable book in the bible because it’s the book of “Wisdom.” This relates to the overall theme of the Bible because God aimed to bring divine truth into proper focus and to enable us to look at life through God’s eyes, from his eternal, all-knowing point of view, and then we can live according to God’s will. The textbook also gave two good reasons why Solomon wrote Proverbs: "to teach people wisdom and discipline and second, to help them understand wise sayings” (Bickel & Jantz, 2003).
Reading Proverbs, it made me reflect on my life. Since I accepted Jesus into my life, I have been hungry to get all the wisdom I can get on treating my brothers and sisters right, handling my finances, resolving conflicts in my life, and someday, being a loving wife to the soulmate God will send into my life. Our textbook stated that wisdom
means “skill”; when you are skilled at doing something, you’re good at it. So, what is this book suggesting you get good at? It’s not a mystery. The answer is found in one of the most often quoted verses in the Bible (Bickel & Jantz, 2003). Proverbs 3:5-6 is my favorite bible verse that I try to live by, and it says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your path” (
Holy Bible, New International Version
, 1973/2011).
This Bible verse tells me that I must know God to trust him and that living right before God is pleasing to God! When you know what is right and do it, that is wisdom!
