I align more with dispensationalism, and though I do not fully agree with every single principle I feel that it aligns more with what I believe concerning God’s plans. I also believe that we are stewards of God’s creation through the commandment He gave to Noah and all three of his sons in Genesis 9:1, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.”. God gave the commandment for humans to repopulate the earth after the flood and gave them reign over the beasts of the earth as well, along with his covenant that He would never flood the earth again (Genesis 9:1-17). The word ‘dispensation’ according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary online means “a general state or order of things (1a) specifically: a system of revealed commands and promises regulating human affairs”. To further this the root of the word is revealed from the Greek ‘ oikonomia’ meaning “household management; administration; or stewardship” (Treier, Elwell, & eds., n.d.). To fast forward to today, which falls under the dispensation of Grace, according to this theology, Christ has given a commandment from the Gospels to go into all the world, preach the gospel, and teach others of Him, so they may be saved. So we went from stewards of populating the earth in the Old Testament, and now we are to be stewards of spreading the Good News of Christ in the New Testament. Matthew 28:19, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,” in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” Taking stewardship or responsibility is very important to me. We take stewardship for our chores growing up from our parents or adults in our lives, and later we take upon ourselves the responsibility of doing work assigned to us correctly and to the best of our ability on our jobs. This also happens spiritually when we accept Christ as our personal Savior. The responsibility doesn't end with the acceptance of Christ, this is only the beginning of the journey, our stewardship begins with that acceptance, and only ends until we pass away physically, or the Lord returns to take us Home. I found covenant theology to be lacking as far as the actual stewardship given, though it discusses different covenants as the underlying connection through the main covenant of grace, I feel it does not fully expound upon the Scripture as a whole to what I understand thus far. God is not taken by surprise, and only He truly knows how the end will be. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the L ORD . And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Isaiah 55:9. This has been true from creation to now, and will continue to be so in the future. Though I may not agree with everything with dispensationalism, one thing is absolutely clear, is that God has given us a command, a stewardship, to spread His Word now until His Son, Jesus Christ returns (Isaiah 55:6; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53). As human beings, we tend to set what we believe or understand in stone. This is not always the case, and this is why God reveals things one piece at a time. I pray that this is just one step in a much larger journey of learning more of Him and His will for me.
