1. According to Bickel and Jantz (2003), what is the main theme of the Bible? (Provide cited support from your text for this theme.) The main theme of the bible according to Bickel and Jantz (2003) is Jesus. “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Holy Bible, New International Version, 1973, Romans 5:8) Overall, from the beginning of time it was always and is and will be most importantly about Jesus. He is our focus. If He is our focus, isn’t it likely to believe the theme of the bible is Him. 2. How does this theme compare to your current view or understanding of the Bible? The theme is obvious, but I had never thought of it quite that way. Jesus being the main theme of the ‘whole’ bible. It puts a wider and more in-depth perspective about many areas in the bible that I might have not viewed in that way. When the bible mentions to keep our eyes on Him 3. How can understanding the big picture of the Bible help you as you seek to apply Scripture to course content? (Provide specific examples to support your response, making sure to also incorporate this week’s Biblical Perspective reading.) Understanding the big picture can help reveal more, see how areas of course content relate to our personal lives, people around us, and the world. Being able to truly know Jesus not only for what He did for the world but what He did for each of us personally. To die for us so that we may ultimately live. To live in and through us to keep us as we walk out our personal journey. It all connects and as discussed in our Biblical Perspective reading, the atonement, the forgiveness and sacrifice for our souls is the most important understanding. For example, I cannot function well day to day without Him in my life. Him in me and the truth of who He is in me transformed me and I am only truly capable of living in peace and love through Him. The things in this world, the enemies’ tactics through our mind and emotions can easily come and sideswipe us, knock us completely off track. Staying in a daily worship/prayer time and relationship with Him changes everything for my day to day. I recently experienced this over Thanksgiving holidays. Not only did a ton of things pop up emotionally but it threw me of with my classes. I am thankful I do know Him and how to get in touch with Him. He is always faithful to rescue and recalibrate through our repentance and sincere return to Him. Bickel, B. and Jantz, S. (1998). Knowing the Bible 101: A guide to God's word in plain language.
