Question one: In The Gospel, the reading had a specific meaning before being adopted by Christians. Describe the original meaning of word “Gospel” and explain how its meaning evolved within the Chrisitan context. Additionally, discuss how the term’s original meaning influenced its use in describing the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Answer: In the reading term The Gospel originally meant the reward given to someone who brough the “news,” It later came to signify the good news itself. With in the Christian context the term eventually turned to specifically refer to the message brough by Jesus Christ. Christians use the term to symbolize the transformative message of Jesus Christ, where His life, death, and ultimately resurrection were viewed as the ultimate good news for humans. The Christian belief that Jesus himself was the embodiment of this good news or message. Thus, ultimately bringing salvation and forgiveness to mankind and Gods promise to mankind. Question two: The reading suggests that the Gospels are a unique kind of writing, distinct from other ancient biographies and miracle stories. Identify and discus two major key factors in ways in which the Christian Gospels differ from other readings. Answer: For one, unlike other readings the biographies seem to focus on the detailed order of the life events, The Gospels do not provide a historical account of Jesus Christ of his life. And also, one might note that they lack detailed character descriptions or background material that are typical in most biographies. Secondly, most “supernatural or miracle”, stories of the time featured elements of exaggerated elements that provide solid detail. The gospel present miracles in a more restrained and casual manner in my opinion. I feel that the primary was not all that historically accurate simply because of the lack of details compared to other writings but the message was the same and just as powerful, which is to demonstrate the spiritual and redemptive message of Jesus Christ, focusing on his teachings, death and resurrection. Which is the center point of Christianity even in modern times Question three: According to the reading, how do the Gospels reflect the apostolic preaching (GK Kerygma), and what is the primary aim of the Gospels in terms of their content and presentation of Jesus Christ’s life?
Answer: The Gospels reflect the apostolic preaching by including some key elements such as the Messiah’s sending by God, His Disciples, death for all humans' sins, resurrection and ultimately the promise of his return in the future. They follow a basic historical outline that is very similar to the apostolic preaching. Ultimately demonstrating a parallel continuity with the early Christian message. Which demonstrates that Gospels is not to serve as a mere historical timeline or record, but to present the true meaning of true redemption involving the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings. The writings seek to confront readers of Christ to strengthen faith in him, guide towards a life of obedience and discipline, to forgive and ask for forgiveness and that one day you too will enter Gods Kingdom.
