Personal Creed CST302-IE-Foundations of Christian Thought Jaime Ortega December 21, 2023
Scripture and Truth By Jaime Ortega We Believe: Scripture and Truth Evangelical Christians believe that their idea and inspirations of God come from the Old Testament as the direct word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). In the Christian faith the scripture in the Old Testament is accepted as true and it teaches everyone who believes about God as he lived, what the scripture states is what God spoke (2 Timothy 3:15). The Old Testament is and can very authoritative scripture only because it is recorded as obvious inspirations of the word of God (2 Peter 1:21). The Old Testament is believed to be inerrant, and the bible is recognized to be completely true and not capable of error. Personally, I agree with the evangelical Christians and their beliefs of this doctrine. I believe and recognize that the accounts recorded within the Old Testament are direct inspirations from God himself. I believe that the people identified in the scriptures were the initial and true followers of the word of God. They made it their primary objective to write detailed accounts to help solidify their beliefs. So future Christians have a written manuscript to continue the word of God. These prophets who wrote the scriptures, did not develop these words themselves, they received them through God who led them to write (2 Peter 1:20). The moments I experience in my life and my family’s life can be found within scriptures and help steer our lives and decisions so we can later be worthy in God’s Kingdom. God, The Holy Trinity By Jaime Ortega We Believe: God, The Holy Trinity: Evangelical Christians believe that the lord exist in all eternity only as one being. They also identify God in three different persons, The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is believed to be triadic, it essential to identify in order to best develop an understanding. “Blessed be the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting” (Neh 9:5). It states in the bible, “To those chosen… according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient and to be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ.” (1 Pet 1:1-2) God is considered only one being. The Holy trinity has also been recognized as always existed. Through the divinity of God this is probable. “The Old and New Testaments consistently affirm that there is only one living and true God (Deut 4:35; 6:4; 1 Tim 2:5; Jas 2:19). There are many references like the this written in the Bible. My personal view on the doctrine is that both the Holy Trinty and God are together as one or the same. When reading about both God the Holy Trinity it makes sense that they are one. For the reason that God is so great and divine, he has the ability to have different versions of his divine self.
Humanity and Sin By Jaime Ortega We Believe: Humanity and Sin: Evangelical Christians believe that humans were created in God’s likeness because he created like that. “God fashions his body from the earth and breathes into his nostrils “the breath of life,” and as a result Adam “became a living being” (Gen 2:7; 1 Cor 15:45). God made us different and above other from all other species and creation, “out of the dust from the ground” (Gen 2:7). Since we were created in God’s image it means that are purpose is to serve each other and God himself. We were created with both immaterial and material parts. In the book of Genesis Adam and Eve sinned by eating forbidden fruit because of that man now knows sin. “God gives us leadership over his creation to rule and care for it in his name. For all this God is to be praised” (v. 9). Since man now know sin, it is the reason why we need God. My personal view of this doctrine is I understand how and agree how God created humans. I also understand and agree that we are all created in his image. It is difficult to understand that we were created from the dust on earth. When thinking of God and the divinity that he has, nothing really is impossible for him. I also agree that we as humans were made to rule over other creation, because God made us in his image. The Person of Christ By Jaime Ortega We Believe: The Person of Christ: Evangelical Christians believe that their inspiration is derived for the bible it the story told in it. It is Christ that helps the Father with creation of heaven and earth He, the revealer of God, makes the invisible God visible” (Morgan, 231). After Adam and Eve disobey and rebel against eh word of God, he sends Jesus Christ to help humanity. The “righteous” One who suffers “for the unrighteous” to bring them to God (3:18). Christ is the one who salvages hope for all, he delivers the people. Jesus is described as, “the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, Creator, God of providence, Lord and Savior, and heir of all things” (Morgan, 223). My personal view of this doctrine is that God is always new that we humans needed saving from sin. From the moment he created Adam and Eve, he realized constantly has to watch over us. Who better to send than his own blood, Jesus Christ, our savior. Christ lived amongst human and taught them about God. Christ is a lifeline handed down to humans of the world.
