Name : Michael Watson Instructor name : Brother Martin Class : REL 200, Section Enter section number here Instructions The purpose of this assignment is to deepen your learning from teaching or engaging in the material outside of class. This write-up is not meant to be a regurgitation of the material to the teacher or solely a summary of your conversation about this course. Responses must show thought, reflection, pondering and depth with college-level writing skills. 1. Provide a simple statement answering who you shared with. I shared with my mother something that was given to me through revelation that helped me, my mother, and my other friend in a tough situation. 2. In a brief paragraph, identify the questions or insights from your personal study that informed your thinking as you prepared for your discussion. While I was studying the course as well as pondering within my heart, I had many insights in regards to homosexuality and the gospel. I am a straight man but I have a really good friend who is attracted to the same sex and is a Return Missionary and has a strong testimony. Lately my friend has been struggling with their testimony and faith due to her same-sex attraction. Through a lot of prayer and divine answers I feel like I understand why God gives each of His children challenges. 3. In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. What was this conversation about? What direct lines or quotes from our reading material or your research were you referencing or thinking about as you had this intentional conversation? Before the conversation, I gave a blessing to my struggling friend because they had a serious injury which rendered them in the hospital. As I gave the blessing I felt as though my friend is one of the strongest and most resilient of God’s children. This inspiration is what led me to talking to my mother. I learned while talking to my mom and this experience that certain challenges and things happen to certain people because they are the only ones who could possibly handle it and still remain faithful. I quoted Romans 8:38-39 as there is nothing that could separate us from the Love of Jesus Christ, and my friend who is so strong is one of the strongest people I know and through the Love of the Son of God, my friend is blessed. . In 1-2 paragraph(s), write about what you learned as a result of this conversation. Answer the following questions: o What deepened connections and insights did you feel because of this conversation?
o What did you agree/disagree with in your discussions? How did you handle this? o Did anything discussed change your thinking? If so, what and how? o How will you build on this knowledge to strengthen your family (now and/or in the future)? o What do you feel inspired to do now that you have read the material and engaged in this conversation? The whole experience and conversation helped me get closer to my friend. I feel like I understand Heavenly Father’s plan better and I feel like I can trust Him during my trials as well. I agreed with my mother that my friend is abnormally strong and that their challenges are a result of her faithfulness and the potential that my friend has. I will use this knowledge for my friends and family in teaching others that we all have our own trial for a reason. God knows our limits and would never give us challenge that we cannot overcome. After reading this week and having this conversation, I want to talk to my friend about how I feel and express my deep compassion for them. I want to reach out to all my friends and family who are currently struggling and give them the advice. We are the only ones that are capable of taking on our challenges, well, us and The Savior. The Savior is who helps us in our challenges. Reference(s) used: o Tap or click here to add the reference used
