LaTonya Wingwood-Franklin Herzing University: Unit 2 16 May 2024 I enjoyed your essay about how pop culture and politics came together during the recent presidential election. It's cool to see
how celebrities like Lady Gaga and TikTok star Charlie D'Amelio used their influence to get people excited about voting (Lizaso, 2022). Respectfully share your own perspectives and ideas with classmates you may disagree with. You mentioned how pop culture can influence people's political opinions. I agree with this because a lot of us get our news and views from social media and celebs, even if we're not really into politics. Although pop culture can have a significant impact on molding public opinion, it is very important to recognize the downsides of relying mainly on entertainment for political information. In an article by Valerie Forgeard, they do discuss the benefits of entertainment, helping recognize the importance of politics, but also mention that some entertainment platforms can spread harmful info and provide false information and to be cautious of these things when using entertainment versus real news to gather information. (Forgeard, 2023). Add new ideas to the discussion instead of just agreeing that something in the reading was interesting or reiterating what others said in the discussion. Find an additional source online or in the library that adds a new perspective to what has already been said. While pop culture can be a helpful way to get people involved in politics, we need to be careful about where we get our information from and make sure we're getting the whole picture. It's essential to strike a balance between engaging a wide audience and ensuring that accurate and comprehensive information is communicated effectively (Forgeard, 2023). In a study, Hasan Piker uses his followers on Twitch to do something called "ratioing" on Twitter which is when a social media post gets more retweets or replies than likes, this can point out that something was not right with the original post. In this study they discuss how Piker has done this with the Twitter posts of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, rapper Nicki Minaj, and conservative influencers Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder and how people like Piker use their influence on media for political reasons (Riedl et al., 2023). Offer an opposing viewpoint that is supported by facts and
