Distinguish between academic honesty and plagiarism. Give an example of academic honesty and plagiarism in academic writing. Describe why plagiarism is not acceptable in an academic setting. Academic honesty is doing your own work and not copying it from anyone else. Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own. Even though they are different you can commit both offenses at the same time. Academic dishonesty is generally defined as behavior that consciously contravenes the requirement that work submitted for the purposes of assessment was a student’s own work, one of the most commonly occurring forms of academic dishonesty is plagiarism (Radulovic & Uys, 2019). One example of academic dishonesty and plagiarism is paying someone to write your paper for you. During my previous studies, I had several people tell me to “just have someone write your papers for you, no one will know.” I will know, and it would not benefit me if I had someone else write my papers, how am I going to learn what I need to learn if someone else does all the work? Plagiarism is not accepted because it is cheating, it is dishonest, and it does not show the instructor that you have learned the material. It will be very hard for people who plagiarize to out into their field of choice as an expert when they didn’t even learn anything because they took someone else's work and used it for their own, they will not be very successful.
