METHODOLOGY 1 Methodology Gabriela Sadler University of the Cumberlands
METHODOLOGY 2 Methodology The following sections will outline the methodology used for this study. The sections include design of the study, which will define which design was chosen and why, research questions, the sampling methodology chosen and why, and how the researcher will choose the sample. Data collection and data analysis methods will be explained. The researcher will discuss assumptions, limitations, and delimitations. Lastly, ethical considerations and issues will be provided. Research Design For this study, the researcher will use an experimental design. According to Leedy and Ormond (2019), experimental research designs pin down cause-and-effect relationships. Many possible factors are considered that might cause or influence a particular behavior, characteristic, or other phenomenon (pg. 192). With an experimental design, there is a control and experimental group so the intervention can be analyzed. This is most appropriate for the study because the researcher will be looking at the effect of co-teaching on a specific group of students. The researcher will use a quasi experimental model to study the effects on the experimental group with a pre and post test. Research Questions This study aims to answer the following research question: 1. Does co-teaching have an effect on the academic performance of students with disabilities? Hypothesis and Null Hypothesis
METHODOLOGY 3 H o : There is a significant difference in academic performance between students with disabilities participating in a co-taught classroom, compared to students in a solo-taught classroom receiving services. H 1 : There is no significant difference between the students with disabilities in the co-taught classroom and the solo-taught classroom when analyzing academic performance. Sampling Method The researcher will use a criterion sampling method where participants have to meet a certain criteria to be chosen. Criterion sampling will be used because the students being studied must be in a co-taught classroom receiving services. The researcher will obtain the sample by completing the following: 1. From June 1st, 2022 to July 1st, 2022 the researcher will contact local school districts to discuss the study with administrators. 2. From June 1st, 2022- July 1st, 2022 the researcher will locate teachers willing to be trained and participate in the study. 3. From June 1st, 2022- July 1st, 2022 the researcher will contact potential students and their parents to discuss the study. The final sample will include 30 students with disabilities: 15 students will be assigned to the experimental group 15 students will be assigned to the control group Of the 30 students, every other student will be assigned to each group. This will create a true randomized sample of the students. Data Collection
