2 Addressing Equity and Social Justice in Social Welfare Policies and Programs Civil rights barriers that cause economic barriers to social security are accessing unemployment insurance, high health costs including prescriptions, disinvestment, and harmful investments in infrastructures. The Inflation Reduction Act helps to lower healthcare costs including prescriptions for low-income individuals and families, and the underserved communities. Strengthening the social safety net will provide economic security to build a better equitable economy. “The Social Security Administration will address barriers in key safety net programs including disabilities and retirement benefits and expand access to legal representation for individuals in the disability insurance appeals process” (Whitehouse.gov, 2023). Civil Rights Barriers to Social Welfare and Social Justice The civil rights barriers to social welfare and social justice the federal action plan addressed are for the underserved, marginalized, poverty, and inequality through a comprehensive approach. “Advancing equity, civil rights, racial justice, and equal opportunity is the responsibility of the whole of our government” (Whitehouse.gov, 2021). Equity requires the federal government through a systematic approach to fairness for the processing of making decisions. Executive departments and agencies foresee the addressing of inequalities in policies and programs serving as barriers to equal opportunities. Advancing equality in the federal government creates opportunities for everyone to improve the communities of the underserved. The federal government’s goal is to provide equal opportunities for everyone to reach his or her full potential. Proposed Action Plan Addressing Civil Rights Barriers The White House Domestic Policy Council (DPC) embedded equity principles, approaches, and policies to remove systemic barriers to provide equal opportunities and benefits,
