Part 2: Summary of Interview and Selected Learning Resources Kelsie Hilbert University of Maryland Global Campus WMST 200: Introduction to Women’s Studies: Women and Society Professor Vasiliki Georgoulas-Sherry  June 24, 2023
Interview Summary I interview my mother in law, Elaine Martinez. Elaine is a 50 year old married mother of two. She runs a Puerto Rican food truck full time and values her culture tremendously. I conducted my interview with her in person at her home and over messages. She was excited to give me this interview and cannot wait to see the final product. Some of the Women Studies topics we covered were motherhood, family roles and work. Learning Resources Summary Hatch, L. R. (2005). Gender and Ageism.  Generations 29 (3), 19–24. Laurie Russell Hatch states that women’s social worth is based more on than physical appearance then men. The study examines these gender- and age-biased constructs, which are represented in the media, ingrained in societal policies, and manifested in the treatment of older men and women differently during medical interactions. It examines how certain women and men view themselves as they become older. It investigates whether people follow cultural assumptions about gender and aging or reject them. I will use this article to compare with Elaine how she felt growing up as a Puerto Rican woman taking care of her husband and two boys. Earnings (CPS). (2021, February 26).https://www.bls.gov/cps/earnings.htm I will use this resource to show that when Mrs. Martinez was working, she was not bringing in a lot of income and had to rely on her husband to help pay the bills. It will show how much men were earning and how much women were earning.
