The discipline I will be focusing on is a Crime Scene Investigator and Reconstructionist. This discipline might be one of the most important jobs when examining a crime scene as it involves a person determining based off the evidence provided at the crime scene the sequence of events about what happened during and after a crime occurred. A Crime Scene Reconstructionist will focus on things like blood splatter patterns and fingerprints as well as possible physical changes of the deceased if the crime involves physical harm or medical malpractice (Crime Scene Reconstructionist Duties, 2021). In the trial of Don Steenkamp who was accused of murdering his parents and sister back in 2012, investigators used a technology that was able to take aerial shots and 360 images of the home so that the court could get a better idea of the crime scene in real life (Kotie, 2021). This technology was able to provide a simulated tour of the home room by room as well as furniture reconstruction within the home to give a more complete look. Along side the reconstruction team were teams that specialized in ballistics and blood spatter analysis who were able to use this simulation to better explain their findings as well to assist in the conviction of Don Steenkamp’s guilty verdict.
