1 ACCESSING INFORMATION ABOUT EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES Dy’Mond Scott Master of Social Work, Walden University SOWK 6311: Social Work Practice Research II Dr. Greg Perkins December 3, 2023
2 Describe two issues in your chosen case that would be important for intervention. I chose to concentrate on Tiffani Bradley because I believe she needs immediate help for her two primary issues: she was recently arrested for child prostitution and she lives with Donald, an older, violent man who has burned and bruised her body all over. I would eventually collaborate with Tiffani to investigate family reunion, but only with her sister and parents. I would help Tiffani feel more confident in herself and show her that she is not alone because her family still cares for and supports her. I would collaborate with Tiffany on the molestation that was perpetrated with her maternal uncle and offer assistance and encouragement so that she would know she truly is isolated in healing what she has experienced. Getting Tiffani away from her violent partner is imperative, but it will be difficult because she sees him as her savior. If she has knowledge of love, respect, and her own value, she will be able to understand how someone who loves someone should be treated. Identify one evidence-based intervention for each issue (from peer-reviewed journals). How do you know these interventions are “evidence-based”? Refer to the main characteristics of evidence-based practice (EBP) in your explanation. To help Tiffani overcome human trafficking and molestation, I would offer her trauma- informed services. Zimmerman et al. (2006) state that Tiffani's approach to treating post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is beneficial because victims of human trafficking have either experienced or witnessed an event or events that included actual death or threatened serious injury, which leaves the victim feeling extremely afraid, helpless, or horrified. I would use a self-
3 esteem questionnaire to help Tiffani understand where her self-esteem is now and where it may be after to boost her self-esteem. Tiffani would benefit from using the Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale (RSES), which would demonstrate to her how her attitudes toward herself both positive and negative affect her ability to make decisions. Summarize the main information about the interventions from each journal article—research design, sample, sample size, and findings/outcomes in a 1-paragraph annotation. A strength-based approach to service delivery, trauma-informed care is founded on an awareness of the effects of trauma and a response to them. It gives survivors the chance to reclaim their feeling of agency and control. Surveys were given to a group of males and females aged 26 to 32 to assess what trauma is and how many of them have experienced trauma. According to the survey, every participant had gone through a trauma before the age of 26. Of those, 38% had experienced a sudden death, 32% had been the victim of a personal assault, 14% had been in a serious accident, 12% had heard about or seen a close friend or relative go through an assault, serious accident, or injury, 3% had suffered from a personal illness, and 1% had been in a natural disaster. (Hopper, et, al., 2010). The purpose of RSES was to calculate the correlation between teenage self-esteem, psychiatric distress, and peer victimization. The sample comprised 233 teens, 160 female and 73 males, between the ages of 11 and 20. Data was gathered using a sampling technique, and a 20-item state self-esteem scale was created to assess participants' levels of self-esteem. Each participant was contacted one-on-one, and they completed a questionnaire to provide data. The findings indicated that there was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of
