Identify how the social worker might have used the ecological model to understand Brandon’s situation based on a person-in-environment perspective. Explain the use of the ecological model in this case on micro, mezzo, and macro levels.  Social workers can use the Ecological model to better understand Brandon's situation and the social environment surrounding it. This can help identify barriers and challenges and achieve goals. The ecological model is useful for understanding how Brandon's behavior is shaped by his environment (Zastrow, 2019). On a micro level in this case, for example, Brandon's family members can shape his personality and values, while his friends can impact his social identity and sense of belonging. Brandon's immediate family, which includes his mother and boyfriend, make up his micro-environment. He had a good relationship with his parents, except for the harm caused. As a social worker in this case, I would recommend on a micro level that Brandon receive guidance on maintaining a healthy relationship with his family. On the Mezzo level, his close friends from home and school can help control some of his inappropriate behaviors by being aware of his behavior. In this case, the macro level would refer to society as a whole and individuals residing close to Brandon. Describe strengths that the social worker may have missed in assessing Brandon and his mother. The social worker might have overlooked some positive qualities that would have been useful during the assessment. For instance, Brandon mentioned that he could cope with the abuse by protecting himself, and he had undergone therapy before. A strengths-based therapy approach would have been beneficial for Brandon and his mother by focusing on their internal strengths and resourcefulness (Zastrow, 2019).
