Question 9 Resources Babies and toddlers: Amazing learners - Video 1 Discuss how...(Approximately 300 words) « Educators supported babies and toddlers to develop a sense of identity and build relationships with the children around them. « As an educator, describe two (2) other ways, apart from what you observed in the video, that you could do to encourage babies and toddlers to have positive relationships with each other. (Use children from the video as a stimulus to develop your ideas.) Your Answer - (1) have supported children to develop a sense of identity by providing a mirror at eye level allowing the children to look at their reflection, creating an engaging and stimulating environment. This encourages self-recognition which is an essential part of developing a sense of identity. The children are pulling faces and dancing as they look at their reflections, which promotes learning about their emotions and facial expressions as well as having fun and engaging in the activity. Another way educators have supported this is by placing value on the interactions between children in the service, as well as parents. This is evident in the interaction one child has with the child arriving at the service with their mother. The excited way the child greeted their peer as they arrived, as well as the positive interaction with their parent, shows the children are building connections and developing social skills, while feeling a sense of security and belonging. One way | could encourage babies and toddlers to have positive relationships with each other is to encourage group activities such as parachute play which promotes cooperation, coordination, and gross motor skills by having the children hold on to the edges of a play parachute or colourful piece of material, and moving it up and down and taking turns to crawl underneath it, or by having group music time, to encourage the children to dance and bond over music by singing, jumping, dancing and copying actions educators exhibit. Another way | could encourage positive relationships is by including activities that are age appropriate to promote the recognition of feelings and emotions. | could do this by reading books to the children about feelings and emotions, using flashcards and singing songs.
