1 Title: Plan a community program Precious Boone Kean university CRJ 360 ONF01 Professor Jennifer Hulvat
2 The Program I decided to design is Juvenile Protection After reading, doing research, and trying to come up with a program I’ve decided to talk about Juvenile Protection because young adults or young children are often the ones who get into the most trouble and may turn to crime to fill a void or just to try to fit in with a group of friends. Having a program that focus on Juvenile Protection will have a different look on how to help them. The community should be aware of children because they are still in need of guidance. Having community prosecution look into different neighborhoods that have high teenage pollution. To give them a better understanding of their surroundings and how they can change or prevent things from happening. Community prosecutor can tackle certain things that are about to happen and get certain people to try to help out in the community, such as finding someone who wants to help make teenagers feel like they have a chance to a better life or become more than just their community they may live in. How I came up with this idea is based on Essex County Community Justice Programs. Which they have internships for young adults, it’s a 4-week program. In having this program for example, it will help reduce juvenile crimes and they get to have a little taste of what goes on into their community. Within my program it will focus on young adults and at school maybe different officers from a local police department can come and talk to kids and offer resources such as maybe an internship, they can offer a school trip as well visiting the police department. Also, they can bring in someone who genuinely cares to act on protecting juveniles. I seek to address the main issues. Maybe crime is at a high level within the community but first we have to identify the problem. The problem could be gang violence, robbery or much worse.
3 For gang violence we have to identify where is it taking place and how can we stop it. Sometimes they may run out of old parks or even abandon homes. Within the community I may have a task for people to find ways to fix up the park and hire someone to fix the houses. By doing this it may have the community feel comfortable or even more at home because action is being taken to change the community to make it better for the children. Once people feel change or see change, they will start to help out. Once fixing things up it will have juveniles who are making the bad choices are about to make bad choices to see not everything is all bad and sometimes when life gives you lemon you may just have to make lemonade. In doing this may bring gang violence to a low point because within my program change is happening and they will see in this neighborhood we are trying to make a change and things like that are not welcomed for juveniles to be introduce to. As I mentioned before, in my previous paragraph having officers come regularly to the school and talk to the kids or juveniles and show them violence is not always the way to a better life. By mentioning an internship within the law enforcement have and what the internship offers and what it might teach them. Maybe they may become interested and feel as though change is going to happen but if they don’t feel it, they may take It as a joke. Community prosecutors are problem-solvers such as they don’t merely focus on individual crimes once committed (Key principles of community prosecution-national district attorneys n.p), they focus on trying to avoid things from acting such as I said fixing parks or homes, that may be a gang hang out. By tackling the problem before it become an issue will prevent violence from occurring.
