Report
Resiliency in Victims of Domestic Violence Jada Marzette 12/10/23 SW-Practice
Research Topic : For my research topic I am proposing an exploration of the resiliency of Domestic violence survivor. I would like to look at where it comes from and things that help DV victims escape unhealthy or dangerous relationships. Search Terms I used to find references that are peer reviewed were, domestic violence or domestic abuse or intimate partner violence, and social support or social networks or social relationships or social inclusion or social exclusion or social isolation. I also used domestic violence or domestic abuse or intimate partner violence, and resilience or resiliency or resilient or strengths or coping or hardiness or adaptation. References Scrafford, K. E., Miller-Graff, L. E., Umunyana, A. G., Schwartz, L. E., & Howell, K. H. (2022). “I Did It to Save My Children”: Parenting Strengths and Fears of Women Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence. Journal of Interpersonal Violence, 37(9/10), NP7775-NP7802. https://doi.org/10.1177/0886260520969231 This article explores the way women parent their children in the context of intimate partner violence. It looks at the strengths and attitudes of women who have and have not directly been exposed to IPV and compares the two. This relates to my topic because it shows how survivors of domestic violence typically have more positive attitudes than women who are not. Heron, R. L., Eisma, M., & Browne, K. (2022). Why Do Female Domestic Violence Victims Remain in or Leave Abusive Relationships? A Qualitative Study. Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma, 31(5), 677–694. https://doi.org/10.1080/10926771.20 This article discusses the factors that may lead to women staying or leaving domestic violence relationships. This will relate to my topic because it will establish a deeper understanding of intimate partner violence and how to potential support women that are in them in order to foster resiliency. Mahapatro, M., Prasad, M. M., & Singh, S. P. (2021). Role of Social Support in Women facing Domestic Violence during Lockdown of Covid-19 while Cohabiting with the Abusers: Analysis of Cases Registered with the Family Counseling Centre, Alwar, India. Journal of Family Issues, 42(11), 2609–2624. https://doi.org/10.1177/0192513X20984496 This article examines how having social support during covid helped women who were in domestic violence partnerships. This relates to my topic because it shows how isolation can affect women negatively especially when they are in toxic relationships, and how having other that support you can lead to positive outcomes and resiliency.
