 What does it mean to say that education reflects social stratification?  Based on the readings, consider how educational reform could potentially break the cycle of inequality. What do you think individuals can do to help combat inequality in education?  What can social agencies do to help combat inequality in education?  How is racial discrimination reflected in educational social stratification? Please provide evidence and specific examples from the readings or other sources to support your argument. Remember to use in-text citations and references when you use ideas or information from When we say that education reflects social stratification, we are saying that the way funding is dispersed among the school districts determines the educational experience a child has. Those educational experiences not only last through those grade school years but also in the years proceeding in the post-secondary and graduate level course work. The funding of these school districts determines what type of learning materials are available to the students. These learning materials are not limited to but can include books. Information technology, lab structures, lab equipment, physical education equipment, and most importantly the salaries of the administration of those school districts from the superintendent to the teachers. Educational reform could potentially break the cycle of inequality by regulating funds so that they are equally distributed across the states with all counties upholding the same educational standards teaching from the same books and providing adequate laboratory funding for all science programs. Although privately funded and taught schools will be able to choose where they disperse their funding to the curriculum which is approved by the state school boards will state what every school and student needs to be proficient in their studies. This reform could also be used in the collegiate area as we know there is a great divide in the difference between educational standards between predominantly white institutions and the one hundred and seven historically black colleges and universities in the United States of America. Although some of these colleges and universities some departments and programs are seen as comparable to their white counterparts, we could only imagine the retention and graduation rates of these schools if funding was properly divided amongst all of the state-funded schools. Individuals could help combat the inequality in education by taking an active role in getting to know who is on their school board and voting for people who have their best interest in mind and are ready to fight for those interests as a parent and as a scholar. Social agencies Can help combat inequality in education by families, churches, and other social entities by developing age-appropriate study groups led by community members who either have degrees in those areas or have a passion for those certain areas, especially in or around underfunded and under- represented areas where representation matters. Racial discrimination is reflected in educational stratification as we say in our appointed reading for the module during the Obama administration alone the funding gap between rich and poor schools grew by 45% which means that schools in richer districts were spending up to 1,500

more dollars per student than poorer school districts. This racial discrimination not only effects monetary aspects of education but also the quality of education itself; in poorer school districts children are profiled on their ability to grasp information and are also diagnosed at higher rates for learning and placed on psychotropics such as Adderall and Ritalin which or a product of the METHYLPHENIDATE family these drugs are one molecule shy of having the chemical make up of methamphetamine.
