Dear Principal, I am writing in order to spread awareness of the importance of family involvement. The topic of family involvement is very important to me as I feel it promotes a child’s healthy development and helps build a connection between the educator, child, and their family. As an early childhood professional, it is my responsibility to advocate for my children to ensure they are receiving the best possible care and that we are following the best policies that are going to benefit their overall development. There seems to be a lack of opportunities for family involvement within our program and I hope this letter will help show the importance of why we need to create these opportunities. Cohen & Anders (2019) state “these early efforts to engage parents in their children’s development and education can be beneficial, through sharing and discussing knowledge with ECEC professionals, enhancing confidence of parents, helping to build a social network among parents, observing role models of appropriate behavior, and supporting parents in providing a positive home learning environment.” Our main goal as early childhood professionals is to help children thrive in the social-emotional and cognitive aspects. To help children thrive in these domains and to give them the confidence to explore their environment we must work closely with the family. Research has shown that family involvement leads to better social, behavioral, and academic outcomes (Morrison et al., 2015). Family involvement is crucial for the overall development of the child. I hope my letter has helped you see this importance and I look forward to working more closely with you on this matter. Thank you, Ms. Alisa Delisle References Cohen, F., & Anders, Y. (2019).
