2 The field of early childhood education is such an exciting field to work in. This stage in a child’s life is where everything starts to happened and connect for them. Working in this field can be such a reward for teachers seeing their students succeed and reach their goals, building relationships with students, and how much we can learn from our students. This field can also present many challenges to teachers in today’s world as well. These challenges can include student behaviors, lack of support from administration, and lack of resources. In this essay I will be going into further detail for each of these rewards and challenges. Being in the education field is such an exciting position to be in. In early childhood education, this is where everything begins to happen for children. Children start to develop their personalities and start achieving educational goals like counting and letter recognition. Seeing children reach their goals and succeed in learning is a huge reward for a teacher. This can simply make a teachers day or even give them the motivation to keep going when they feel like giving up. It does not matter what grade level, as educators we are helping children shape their future and helping them reach their goals is the first step. Another reward of being in the education field is the relationships that we teachers get to make with our students. As teachers we are our student’s biggest advocates. It is our job to stand up for our students and protect them while they are in our care at school. Some students may not get the support they need at home, so we need to make sure that while they are at school we are supporting them with motivation. We might be that thing that keeps them going when they feel like they failed everyone else. The bond between a teacher and her students can be a bond like no other and can even inspire them to become teachers one day too. The final reward that comes with being a teacher is the many things we will learn from our students. Our students are our best teachers. This principal can range from learning how you
3 can better deliver a lesson to even learning more about yourself through your students. This can also coincide with the reward of building relationships with our students. Our students is what makes us a better teacher because of the things we learn we need to do better while teaching them. Our goal as teachers is to be better for them and to enrichen their educational experience while they are in our care. The role of being a teacher can also come with challenges as well. The first challenge that can potentially come with the role of being a teacher is the behaviors that students display. This I feel is the main challenge that I will face in the field of education. This can be a challenge especially for new teachers entering the field because they do not have much experience with behaviors in the classroom. “C ertain kinds of student behavior —all can reduce teaching effectiveness” (Ryan, Cooper, Bolick, 2016).  Not only can this be a challenge for the teacher but this can also create challenges for the other students in the classroom as well. Behaviors in a student or a group of students can act as a learning distraction for the rest of the class. This can be difficult for the teacher because their students are falling behind because of other behaviors in the class. The next challenge that can occur as a teacher is the lack of support from administration. This challenge can be the most stressful and draining to a teacher when they do not have the support they need. Administration can lack support in areas of behaviors, not giving enough information to their staff, or even over doing the work load of their staff. Sadly this can result in teachers leaving. “   Teachers who leave because of dissatisfaction cite student discipline problems, poor working conditions, lack of support from the school administration, poor student motivation, and lack of teacher influence over school wide and classroom decision making as major reasons” (Ryan, Cooper, Bolick, 2016). When any of these scenarios happens, it not only
