Southwest Airlines invites military personell, active and retired veterans to apply. They also offer positions to qualified disabled individuals and disabled veterans. According to Forbes, “The icing on the cake is an elaborate recognition program for all employees who are recognized by customers. They are lauded in newsletter features, on the intranet, by the CEO in videos that are played at staff meetings, and dinners honoring them. Other airlines would have to cut their costs by 29% to be able to compete direct with SWA, but have not been able to. SWA airlines would rather have a full plane of $49 seats rather than a ½ full plane of $200 seats. 4. SWA uses direct marketing by phone and internet, no middleman or commuter feeders. Just recently, SWA joined Expedia, Orbitz, Egencia and a few other distribution channels for customers to be able to book flights. SWA ads whether on tv, newspapers, magazines, facebook, twitter, direct consumers to go to their online website for the best low fares. 5. The low fares that SWA offers is hard to beat as well as no extra fees, as the competition has implemented these fees to attempt to be profitable. SWA is known for their continued low cost fares and profitability. 6. With the recent SeaWorld Orca controversy, SWA has been one of SeaWorlds biggest promoters and protestors are hoping to put pressure on SWA to drop SeaWorld and make a donation to save the whales. SWA has had non-controversial blog posts that promoting SeaWorld and the controversy are irrelevant to one another. I have not had any ‘negative’ experiences with SWA.
