“And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.”
This lady was from Canaan, a Gentile, who was in the coasts of Tyre and Sidon that Jesus had come to. She had a daughter possessed by a devil, not only possessed, but grievously harassed, tormented, and plaguing her daughter. Jesus answered the disciples and said He was only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then the woman came and worshiped Him, crying out in deep prayer for help from Jesus. Jesus then spoke to her and told her that it is not meet to take the Jews bread and cast it to the Gentiles. She acknowledged that Jesus spoke the truth, but said Even the Gentiles eat of the Master’s table.
God 's banquet table is filled with unending bountiful blessings where there is enough Bread of Life for all. Christ was testing her faith. He said great is her faith, be it according to your will, and her daughter was immediately made whole.
“The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”
Those were strong bold words coming from the lips of our blessed Lord. The Lord knew the heart of those that were giving their livestock more value than a daughter of Abraham, one that Satan had inflicted for eighteen years. Certainly, their actions and their heart was in a shameful condition. Their love for the beast was more than for a daughter, and gave their wicked hearts
