Imagine one day being a free man or woman then one day that freedom is taken from you.Well that is exactly what Solomon Northup went through for 12 years of his life, and not knowing if your wife and children are ok also if you’ll ever see them again.This is some of the things that Solomon Northup went through in 12 Years A Slave.Solomon Northup was a free man for a long time,but then two men offered him a job playing the violin in their band he accepted.Those men double crossed them they got Solomon drunk, and when he fell asleep they took him to a white man which he then sold Solomon to a plantation owner. The masters would whip their property something as little as not collecting enough cotton.They would also whip them is they did not do as they were told to. The whippings were so bad that they made them bleed so badly. Their injuries would be quite a few inches deep, the slaves knew that if they did not obey their masters that they would get whipped severely.When they did it the masters would even make other slaves hit slaves with the whip. Master Eipps from the movie made Solomon whip Patsiee over and over again until she fell over passed out from so much pain. Solomon did not want to hurt her he felt so much sympathy for her. My choice of the movie 12 Years a Slave is an outstanding depiction of the lives of slaves in the 1840’s. This film follows the gruesome life of Solomon Northup. A black man born free in Saratoga, New York. Who was fooled, poisoned, and abducted by men who sold him into slavery. The movie is based on the book called “Twelve Years a Slave: Narrative of Solomon Northup, a Citizen of New-York, Kidnapped in Washington City in 1841, and Rescued in 1853, From a Cotton Plantation Near the Red River, in Louisiana.”
