The 18th amendment made made the manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol illegal. This amendment was a huge failure because it causes people to go behind the laws back and drink illegally. There was a secret drinking establishment called speakeasies and there were also people who provided alcohol illegally and they were called bootleggers. Why would the Congress pass the 19th Amendment if it meant to just give women the right to vote when instead of going around the streets saying they voted, when voting is the job of men? Well not everything involves men, women helped out with a lot of jobs when the men were off to war, the women volunteered to help. That is why the 19th Amendment is important. The 19th Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920, the Implications, equalizes women, and the current event, with Hillary Clinton and court cases, like Lesser v. Garnett. Therefore, the 19th Amendment is important because it is women's right to vote and this amendment finalizes the equalization of gender, skin color, and race.

The United States constitution is still adequate for today. In no way is the constitution perfect, however it covers our natural rights, checks and balances, and it allows America to be a democracy.

The Constitution and the Amendments are two very important documents that are needed in order to keep the people of America in order. The purpose of the Constitution is to, “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” (Constitution Preamble). The purpose of the Bill of Rights and the 17 Amendments, bringing the total to 27, are to protect the rights of the people of America and to prevent the government from having full control over the people.

The framers of our Constitution knew that time has a way of changing countries and their citizens. Our country was in a whirlwind of change in 1789 as people were experiencing freedom from the tyranny of England for the first time in their lives. Our country was being molded and formed into a great nation by the founding fathers. Expectations and rules had to be set to protect the rights of the minorities and majorities. The Eighteenth Amendment was made to stop alcohol from getting on the streets but it did no use so they got rid of the Eighteenth Amendment. The temperance movement and the prohibition on alcohol helped stop most of the drinking in the United States of America.
