Our Constitution was written to be the backbone of our government but with the task it's given not everything can be written word for word but must be interpreted. Its there to establish our national government and fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. With ideas such as amendments and the Elastic Clause our Constitution can cover all bases and be able to adapt to the situations at hand.

Change comes whether we like it or not and amendments are set in place to govern what the founding fathers had not thought was an issue at the time our Constitution was written. Amendments are the process of formally altering or adding to a document. The Constitution restricts what our government is able to do but sometimes new rights and laws need to be made. This allows for our Constitution to fill our needs in the present time as new problems arise. Laws and rules in the amendments are made to form to the citizens for our benefit. If an amendment is proposed it would go to the House of Representatives and the Senate who would vote to add it or not. If they believed it would improve our Constitution then it would be added. The 18th amendment was the prohibition of alcohol which was then repealed by the 21st amendment. They prohibited it in the States because they believed it would benefit the people’s health and work ethic as well as reduced crime. It was largely supported before it was passed especially by female religious groups. It didn’t accomplish what they had hoped for, it had grown very unpopular, criminals were making lots of money smuggling it and people were brewing at home with unsafe conditions. Because of the negative effects it had on the states it was repealed to accommodate the general population. It was set in place to improve our country but didn’t accomplish it so it was
