The events that took place all through the 1900’s are a huge part of what has shaped our history all the way up until this day. It’s also a huge part of what shaped America and made us the free desegregated nations that we are today. For example segregation back in the 1900’s and caused many big events that all resulted in successes and failures. Jim Crow laws were made which are laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. Other big events that took place were protests like The March On Washington in August 1963 when 250,000+ gathered in front of the lincoln memorial to protest. The March on Washington was also the occasion of Martin Luther KIng Jr’s I Have a Dream Speech. All this happened for the rights of Civil Rights.

One of them is Riots because being humble did not get them anywhere at all so they protested and it became very violent and turned into riots. The streets were filled with protestors many were injured and some could be killed in these riots. It was so crazy that swat teams had to come and hold them back so no one got hurt. Another strategy the used was Marches. They started marches through the street black and whites would sometimes both be involved with these marches. In one of the marches they had there was as many as 250,000 people whites and blacks all together would march and stand for what they believed. Beginning in the early 1920’s, America found itself in a frenzy of revolutionary movements that would shift the everyday lives of American citizens and pave the way to the modern era. A struggle between old ideas of conservatism and new liberal movements surfaced during the “roaring twenties”. The new movements that began rearing their heads during this time period consisted of liberal political ideas, the advancements of rights for the common man and woman, and reforms to our social culture.
Following the First World War, the United States went in search of a, “return to normalcy,” which many agreed was exactly what it needed. However, to the dismay of many, all the United States could find was a significant amount of tension that had developed between, “Old America,” and, “New America.” All in all, this tension that arose between old and new traditions and ideas did so in the form of religion, conflicts within society, and cultural values.

One Social change during the late 1800s was the emancipation of slaves. For Example, in document 2, it is stated "Liberty came to the freemen of the United States not in mercy, but in wrath, not by, moral choice but by military necessity, not by generous action of the people among whom they were to live, and whose good-will was essential to success...., but by strangers, feigners, invaders, trespassers, aliens, and enemies. " This example demonstrates that the emancipation was forced and had moral value to the decision that made African-American people's lives difficult and cruel from racist actions and disadvantages. One example of a racial discrimination action was the Jim crow Laws.
Throughout the years 1825-1850, reformers in America sought change and worked to get it. Through the formation of new groups, propaganda, and books, American reformers took to supporting their own cause. America saw many movements that sought to provide positive reformation in areas such as temperance, slavery, government, penitentiary, and women’s suffrage; and though not all of these movements were immediately successful, they were able to expand upon democratic ideals. One reform movement that sought change during this time period were those who believed in temperance. Alcohol had become very popular since the colonization of America, but in the early 1820s, reformers began to attack drunkenness as a corruption to society.
Thesis: Slavery was the biggest issue during the election of 1860. There were four candidates in this presidential election. Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, John Breckinridge, and John Bell all campaigned for the presidency. Each of these men had completely different views of how they thought the issue of slavery should’ve been handled. This was one of the most historic elections in US history.
The period between 1800 and 1860 was a period of immense change in American history. Was the Market Revolution a net detriment or net benefit to American society? Some have said that it was a net benefit on America, while others believe it was a detriment to society. The Market Revolution had a positive impact on America because it increased employment and workingwomen. These changes made the ordinary American life more prosperous.
What helped shape and create society today? Four Philosophers, John Locke, Voltaire, Adam Smith, and Mary Wollstonecraft, during the late 1600’s through the late 1700’s all had at least had one similarity. That was that they believed in to change one’s perspective on the rights and freedom on different race, gender, or class. All of the philosophers ideas benefit the society and helped build courage for individuals.
20th Century Impactful Event In the mid 1950's and 1960's, African Americans experienced an excessive amount of discrimination and segregation. Jim Crow Law's, which enforced racial segregation in the south were in effect. These laws caused African Americans to be tremendously unequal to whites as they could not have the same opportunities as whites. Activists who supported African American equal rights wanted a change. In response, protests, boycotts, and court cases such as Brown v. Board of Education emerged.
Many strategies were used to fight for civil rights and success and failures were experienced along the way to achieving their goal. Paragraph 1: (strategies) African-Americans created many strategies to fight for their rights. Many started to get tired of how they were being treated. Protests broke out and caused more diversity and complexity. People lost their lives do to protesting.
Throughout the American history, everything influenced us to be different and change the way we live now. Two events in which changed and impacted the American History, culture, and life is slavery in the South and the battle of Lexington and Concord. Slavery in the South has made a huge impact not only the American History, but our lives as well. Slavery started in 1619 in Jamestown, Virginia. They were used to attend tobacco.
Looking at the data, there needed to be some deleting and altering of the data. Some years had to be deleted from the data set because the number of records for those years were too low. There were single entries for years 1809,1810,1812,1863 and 1864. These entries were deleted from the data set. The year 1932 and the years 1948-1999 were also deleted. The year 1932 only had 15 records, so the number of records was too low. 1948-1997 were deleted because those years only had between 1 and 21 records so they were deleted because they were too low. The number of records was < 30 so we discarded these years. The sample sizes for these years were small and the data would not fit a normal distribution.
The other good thing is that it is using no violence. Some strategies that were used during the civil rights movement were Nonviolent resistance and law and order. Nonviolent resistance actually helped African-Americans unlike law and order because some white people supported African Americans by joining their marches which was huge in order to help them become equal in society. Many people couldn’t believe that white people were joining African Americans. In the beginning of the civil rights movement, no one believed that they would get the support of white folks. They used many strategies. Some of the strategies include, speeches, there were many speeches led by civil rights activists. There were also marches that were led by African American and sometime whites that were fighting about letting black and any other color but white into their schools. There were court cases led by blacks to try and end the civil rights movement and get into the white schools. Some whites held riots if blacks or any other color, tried to get into the schools, or when the came into the white part of towns. African Americans had protests to try and end the whites from picking on them. Some blacks held riots when the whites would beat them up or fight an African American for no reason. Blacks stopped riding buses because they couldn't sit where they wanted.
During the nineteenth century, the United States of America was both democratic and undemocratic. As a newly independent country from Great Britain, the U.S tried to stay away from the tyrannical government which they had before. America believed that by giving people a say in the government and granting more rights to citizens, they would prove to be a successful government. However, although they seemed to be democratic, the United States still had some undemocratic aspects.
