Witness to the assassination of Malcolm X
HIS 135
Dear Diary, I am one of many to witness the assassination of Malcolm X. On February 21, 1965 today we have lost a legacy. Malcolm X was a strong speaker, and was moved by many African Americans. He did so much to make us feel connected with our African American heritage. He would say the words that we would think but were scared to say. Malcolm X lost his life by the Nation of Islam; everyone is surrounded by questions of this fearless man’s death. The files The Files of Malcolm X, reveals The Smoking Guns in the FBI reports, which was dated for February 22, 1965, the files declares that Malcolm X had 10 gun shots penetrating to the chest, his thigh and

Even though Malcolm X received many death threats and even had his house set on fire on Feb. 14, 1965, a week before today. I still remember the interviews he gave “I’m a marked man. It doesn’t frighten me for myself as long as I felt they would not hurt my family…. No one can get out without trouble, and this thing with me will be resolved by death and violence.” He was brave, strong, and a true man. Who has touch hearts of many. He will always be remembered as a hero, who became a symbol of black pride and social protest. His legacy will be remembered by many and he will live on in history, for his messages he advocated for a majority of his public life.

An nurse serving in Vietnam
HIS 135
Dear diary today is my first day as a nurse in Vietnam, I have to say that it not what I had expected. First off I expected to be in a big hospital building, with good equipment to work with. However I did not expect to work in small tents. There is very little room, and hard to move around with so many people. There are so many soldiers who are wounded, and can barely move. I have to say that this job is exhausting because more soldiers keep coming, some of the men
put forward the emancipation proclamation, but racism was still taking its toll heavily within the United States. The hatred and violence that took place all around Malcolm drove him violently into the civil rights movement, but it was shortly after that Malcolm met his final destination and was assassinated on February 21,
Malcolm X had been a very influential speaker in his day and delivered speeches to numerous crowds. His following overwhelmed the government and Hoover decided that the FBI should be documenting the actions of the Nation of Islam and especially its two leaders. Malcolm’s speeches talking about the “white devil” spurred concern in the Kennedy administration. Malcolm was against the white community but always denied being racist. Hoover couldn’t understand this and after hearing Malcolm say it plenty of times, he called Kennedy’s attention to it once again. From this time on Kennedy had kept tabs on him and felt that Malcolm was now a threat to the
Malcolm X wasn’t an innocent as many people believe, as a matter of fact, he deserved to be assassinated. Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 and was assassinated February 21, 1965. At 39 years of age Malcolm X was shot around 15 times at speaking engagement in the Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom. Understanding the story and philosophies of Malcolm Little can be extremely eye opening for the average American, as most view him as a man who simply took a slightly more violent approach than the famous MLK. The assassination of Malcolm X was just because he preached racism. and was an advocate for violence in place of peaceful protest; however many people considered him to be a supporter of racial amalgamation.
Malcolm X, an African American leader and prominent figure in the Nation of Islam, was a significant individual in the African American fight for justice and equality. In contrast to the mainstream Civil Rights Movement with its nonviolent pursuit of integration, Malcolm X voiced concepts of race pride and Black Nationalism during the 1950s and '60s. Although many argue that Malcolm X did not actually “do” anything for the black community, his nontraditional programs brought a new perspective to the Civil Rights Movement, and this perspective is of relevance today in the black community.
X was also an inspiring speaker such as the likes of King Jr. Except he would fight using violent methods if necessary, “by any means necessary”, unlike King. If the American authorities did not want to deal with the peaceful protests of King then Malcolm X would be the second option. However, after leaving the Nation of Islam Malcolm X’s attitude changed to that of non-violent protest for integration. Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965 by members of the Nation of Islam.
Malcolm X, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz’s legacy is about one’s personal transformation of a self-made man. A man who once associated himself with hustling and crime as a ghetto pup; then to a staunch radical activist, to a political figure, and to becoming one of the most influential African Americans in history. To some he was admired as a courageous human rights activist for blacks, and in some others eyes, he was a man who preached racism and violence towards the whites. Before his last two years of adapting to a peaceful outlook as an activist; before, on one hand, he was undeniably repulsed by the racial discrimination and violence against black Americans, and on the other he originally believed that America offered
Since Malcolm x a world known natural rights activist he had a lot of unwanted attention. Malcolm x became a Muslim leader and became apart of the “Lost-Found Nation of Islam” after he discovered Elijah Muhammad teachings and principles while he was in prison .(History.com/staff) Malcolm had spoken against The Leader of the Lost-Found Nation”. Malcolm’s house was firebombed and nothing was left of it.(World History Project)
At one of the meetings, Malcolm X met the founder of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad. It didn't took Malcolm X too long to revive Muhammad's attention and soon he was appointed by Muhammad as the assistant minister of the Detroit temple. During this time, Malcolm X changed his last name to Malcolm "X", which represents the unknown african root. Malcolm X traveled to his old place and tried to convert his old friends. Not only did he went to his old place, he also traveled the whole United States trying to convert people to Islam. Later Muhammad moves to Arizona and because of the long distance, Malcolm stated making decisions without asking Muhammad. Everything was going smoothly until jealousy grow inside of Muhammad towards Malcolm X. Muhammad states to ignore Malcolm X and spoke less about Malcolm X during his speeches. Things starts to heat up after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. All the members of the Nation of Islam was told specifically by Muhammad not to comment on the the assassination but Malcolm X did. This caused the relation between Malcolm and the Nation of Islam to worsen. Later on Malcolm X came to know that Muhammad's unnecessary reaction to Malcolm X's comment was to kick him out of the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X was shocked with
Malcolm X was an African-American pioneer and conspicuous figure in the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X verbalized ideas of race pride and dark patriotism in the 1950s and '60s. Conceived on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm X was a noticeable dark patriot pioneer who served as a representative for the Nation of Islam amid the 1950s and '60s. Because of his endeavors, the Nation of Islam developed from a simple 400 individuals at the time he was discharged from jail in 1952 to 40,000 individuals by 1960. Expressive, enthusiastic and a normally skilled and moving speaker, Malcolm X urged blacks to push off the shackles of prejudice "by any methods important," including brutality. The searing social liberties pioneer broke with the gathering instantly before his death, February 21, 1965, at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan, where he had been get ready to convey a discourse.
At this point in his life, Malcolm X has made many “bad” decisions that Elijah Muhammad didn’t agree with and it caused the NOI to be furious with him. Because of this Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21 by Talmadge X Hayer who was apart of the NOI. “ When Malcolm X was assassinated, many Americans viewed his killing as simply the result of an ongoing feud between him and the NOI” (Ali Zaher).
“Every morning when I wake now, I regard it as having another borrowed day. In any city, wherever I go, making speeches, holding meeting of organization or attending to other business, black men are watching every move I make, awaiting their chances to kill me, I have said publicity many times that I know the Muslim in the nation of Islam” Malcom X separated himself from the Nation of Islam and its leader Elihaj Muhammad after being censured publicly by Elihaj for his comment "chickens coming home to roost" On February 21, 1965 Malcolm was shot during
In Mecca he experienced a change in his convictions: "Since I learned the truth in Mecca, my dearest friends have come to include all kinds—some Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, agnostics, and even atheists! I have friends who are called capitalists, Socialists, and Communists! Some of my friends are moderates, conservatives, extremists—some are even Uncle Toms! My friends today are black, brown, red, yellow, and white!" During a conciliatory excursion to Africa, Malcolm started the work of uniting Blacks over the world, later building up the Organization of Afro-American Unity in the United States. On the other hand, Malcolm now trusted that the Nation of Islam saw him as a risk. On February 21, 1965, he was killed while tending to a crowd of four hundred people in the Audubon Ballroom of
A year before his assassination, he spoke here at the Oxford Union talking on his experiences facing racism in America. At this moment, I learned how his views changed after splitting from his leader, Elijah Muhammad from only wanting to create a unity within the Nation of Islam, to willingly work with anybody to help tear down racism. Happy Birthday to one of the important visionaries of all time, the honorable Malcolm X.
Malcolm received death threats and open violence towards him. An NOI temple leader ordered the bombing of his car. Elijah Muhammad told a minister that "hypocrites like Malcolm should have their heads cut off" (PBS). His house was set fire once, but nobody was harmed. Malcolm X was assassinated by a gunshot to the chest on February 21, 1965 while speaking at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York. Three members of the NOI were convicted in his murder. His ideas were immortalized in his autobiography, Autobiography of Malcolm X (Altman, 199). Malcolm X left an everlasting impact in the fight for racial equality. Some of his ideas were radical, but he was able to gain support and followers due to his fundamental thoughts being intelligent and beneficial to black Americans. Simple thoughts such as shifting people from referring to African-Americans as “colored” and larger ideas such as movements to end police brutality are Malcolm X’s legacy. The Black Lives Matter movement credits Malcolm X as a person who endlessly fought for civil rights. Countless activists today quote Malcolm X’s profound words as inspiration and continue his lessons today. Malcolm X was definitely not a typical civil rights activist, but that is what made him even more
On Feb. 21, 1965, revolutionary Black nationalist leader Malcolm X was assassinated while making a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, N.Y. He was only 39 years old. To this day, it is still widely believed throughout progressive sectors that the U.S. government was very much behind his death.
