1)Analyze the trends affecting security and loss prevention and determine the approaches to reduce losses facing businesses and institutions

The biggest loss for the airport would be stealing of aircraft or parts, as well as purposely trying to harm the plane or anyone on it (Gardner, 1995). The FAA and ICAO require daily day light inspections and sometimes even more frequent inspections depending on the plane.

Maintenance includes several steps and they are sweeping, magnetic bars, rumble strips, and FOD containers (Bachtel). Sweeping should be done routinely with the sweeper or a broom. The airfield sweeper is the most effective way to remove debris from all the pavement in the airfield as well as any cracks or uneven pavement. Sometimes the sweeper can not reach certain areas so someone may need to use a broom to clean out those areas that can not be reached by the machine. The magnetic bars are strapped beneath tugs and trucks to pick up any kind of metal material. These should be inspected regularly to make sure there are no loose items could fall off.

The Rumble strips can damage the vehicle undercarriages if not careful and can be moved and transitioned around the airfield. Putting FOD containers at all gates is an excellent and easy way to collect debris that needs to be thrown away. These containers should be emptied weekly and evaluated as to what is being thrown away.. Protecting all aspects of the airport and airfield is very important not only for the employees and passengers but the owners of the different aircraft 's as well.
