20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The story starts off with Professor Pierre Aronnax as the main character. Various nations are speculating about a large marine animal. They believe it could be a very large narwhal. M. Aronnax does believe it is a large animal and not a large submarine vehicle. While returning to his current residence in New York City, he receives a letter ask him to join an expedition to rid of the strange creature. M. Aronnax and his servant Conseil board the Abraham Lincoln, which is one of the fastest ships in the American Navy.
After a long days and nights aboard the ship, M. Aronnax befriends Ned Land, the Canadian harpooner. The captain of the ship then calls a "Three days grace" where if they do not find the creature, then they will return back to the land. On the very last day, Ned spots the creature's luminous light coming from what looks like the eye. They decide to pursue it, but the creature is too fast for them. After a while chasing it, the beast starts to play with them by circling them multiple times. It even tried to ram the ship, but suddenly dives right under them. The ship soon loses the race to keep up with the animal. After

Captain Nemo explains to them that they will be held in confinement on the ship for the rest of their lives as he fears they will reveal the ship's secrets. Captain Nemo entertains them with his vast library, and also shows them the saloon. The saloon is part of the ship where most of Captain Nemo studies aquatic life. The room is also transparent allowing them to see the ocean within the ship. M. Aronnax somewhat "befriends" Captain Nemo. His host soon explains the idea of how the Nautilus works. After a few days, M. Aronnax and his companions see no sign of the crew of Captain Nemo himself. Once he returns to his room however, he finds a note of invitation to have an undersea hunting near the island of Crespo with Captain

The Mariner views the Albatross as an omen because it seemed to cause the ice to “split with a thunder-fit” and a “good south wind”, both of which allowed the Mariner’s

“Rosette was born the same day that Gambo disappeared. That is how it was. Rosette helped me through the worry that they would take him alive and with the emptiness he left in my heart. I was absorbed in my daughter. That Gambo was running through the jungle pursued by Cambray 's dogs occupied only a part of my thoughts” (Allende, 134) Those words are said by Zarité, the main character of the book Island Beneath the Sea by the Chilean Isabel Allende, translated and published in the United States on 2009. It starts on the Island of Saint-Domingue (actual Haiti) from 1770 to 1793 and the second part, take place on Louisiana, USA, from 1793 to 1810. About the main character, Allende said: "Of all the characters I created, that of Zarité for me that I have more the feeling that existed". While Island beneath the Sea, I have been clarifying, predicting and finally, evaluating.
In 1866, the start of a remarkable experience is basic: storyteller Professor Aronnax and his two painstakingly chose partners go on a pursuit after a slippery mammoth that makes pulverization the nautical world. This alleged "beast" might possibly be a narwhal, an incredible and fanciful ocean animal with a solitary horn like a unicorn. This creature is stealthy, calm, and unbelievably lethal. The voyagers find that it is not a narwhal, but rather a much more unprecedented bit of innovation. It was a recently designed submarine named the Nautilus. Jules Verne takes an exceptional outing and changes it into a standout amongst the most unsafe and hazardous experience's that Aronnax, Ned, and Conseil will ever persevere in their lifetime. In
It promptly fitted a frigate, the Abraham Lincoln, to destroy the beast, and invited Pierre to join them, for his science capabilities. For many months they searched, but could not find this Narwhale anywhere. When they found it, it attacked the ship, disabling it, and sending M. Aronnax, Ned Land (a harpooner) and Conseil (servant of Pierre) overboard. Soon, the three were guests in the Narwhale, now known to be a ship, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo. During the stay aboard the Nautilus, Pierre Conseil and Ned encounter and discover many wonderful and interesting facts from the sea. Often, they would accompany the captain in an under water expedition. Several of these excursions were to hunt, and others were simply to explore a submarine region. One of the times when the purpose was just to investigate an underwater region, Captain Nemo and M. Aronnax explored the lost city of Atlantis. On a separate occasion, Pierre found that there was a supply of coal underwater that the Nautilus used as a source of fuel. In addition to underwater excursions, the Nautilus itself was on a round the world journey, which accounted for the most exiting time of the book. This was when Captain Nemo was attempting to access the South Pole. That meant passing the Great Ice Barrier, and surviving with very little air. During this rather long voyage, the submarine gets wedged between two icebergs,
There is also a shark that is “playing around” near the boat; curiously, it does not seem to even acknowledge their presence. The realization that they have no purpose brings them to the brink of despair. In the beginning of the story, the author describes the “dawn of seven turned faces.” These are faces of the “seven mad gods” who are apathetic towards the men; moreover, they are part of nature. Towards the end of the story, the correspondent recalls a childhood verse that helps him to understand nature’s indifference. Through their experience together, the four men realize that all they have is each other. The correspondent feels sympathy suddenly for a dying soldier, one who does not even exist, “The correspondent, …dreaming…was moved by a profound and perfectly impersonal comprehension. He was sorry for the soldier of the Legion who lay dying in Algiers.” Being in the current situation, the correspondent finally understands the tragedy of the dying soldier. He realizes what it is like to be alone in a cruel world and more importantly, he realizes he does not have to be alone. When he first heard the story, he was also indifferent towards the soldier, just as nature is indifferent towards the rest of the world. He now understands what it is to be human. Crane opens a view of reality that first seems bitter, but in the end, stands as

In his novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Jules Verne introduced the reader to a brilliant professor by the name of Aronnax and the eccentric Captain Nemo who mans the Nautilus, a remarkable submarine. When the passage opens, it tells that Aronnax is debating with the other crew members, and he believes there is more to the pole than just ice. This illustrates that Professor Aronnax is a very curious ,yet simplistic person. In the first place, Professor Aronnax is a very optimistic person throughout the story. In paragraph 11 he says that he is eager to see what is behind the ice bank even though his colleagues say its just “Ice, ice, and more ice” as it stated in paragraph 10.
In the novel The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway uses the literary device of metaphors.
