The 3rd annual Kinslee’s Kickn’ 3v3 went well again this year. We had seven teams sign up to play in the event and one team was even made up of our school dance team. We had many ups and down throughout the event that went from dates having to be changed to the events location being changed three times in one day. On the day of the event things weren't looking hopefully due to a rain storm that came in that morning causing the event to be moved from the Brooke High School soccer fields up in the schools back gymnasium, and than outside again to the school football turf field. After all of the craziness of setting up had ended we got the ball rolling, literally to try and beat the forecasted rain for later in the day. We set up the teams
Sunday April 24, 2016. This was the date of this tournament. The team that I’m on is called the Berlin Bulldogs. Berlin is the town that we support, and Bulldogs to support that we’re a tough and strong team. We played eight games and lost 3, won 3, and tied 2 of the games. Most of the parents that we had to support us, were supplying the food and drinks so that we wouldn’t starve or run out of drinks. We had a chant, a great team, and the best coaches that guided us through the success that we needed. The worst part of this tournament was that we’re a 2nd league team and we were playing against the best of the best teams. The strange thing was that we won against one of those teams by 10 points (they must have played against really easy teams to become the best of the best teams!). The fields that we played on had the greenest of grass, but the fields were horrible because there were many areas that had holes and many people on the teams came off the field in pain because of falling into those holes.
In November of 2014, my team and I made it past the first round of the LHSAA Division AAAA playoffs after defatting the number twenty-eight seed, Belle Chase High School. After finishing a very good regular season with a record of 10-2, we went into the playoffs surprising everyone as the number four seed. After the winning the first round in style, we found ourselves matched up with defending state champs from the season before. On this defending state champ team, they possessed some of the top defensive backs in the state of Louisiana. In this nail biter of game, my team and I would face adversity, nervousness, and discipline. We got on the rented charter bus, and began our trip down to the heart of New Orleans to play the East Jefferson Warriors in what would be a very exciting high school football game full of hard hits and upsets.
My team only had six players available to play. We have nine kids on our roster. One of them broke their wrist during a game. Another kid had boyscouts. And a third kid was unavailable to make it to the game. My team, the Rhinos, were wearing blue, and the other team was wearing white jerseys. Our best player is Kaden. He is over 6 feet tall, and is a really good shooter. His also a great defender.
Four kids on the team, all of which had played at least four years, were a grade higher than the rest of us and were going into high school. According to IHSAA rules, any player on a high school team could not play or practice with a travel ball team. This meant they could only play with us after their season ended in May. The second problem arose when our coach decided not to return. His son was going into high school, and he didn’t have the time anymore. So we hunted for a new coach, all the way until we found one three days before tryouts. Once again, I looked forward to a season with the Tribe. But when tryouts came, only 10 kids showed up – enough for a team, but not enough to compete. The 14u Tribe season was not to take
The past two year we won the first two games in a dogfight and then destroyed Saginaw High in the district championship. On the week of the game, practices are a vale of tears . Twenty brutal suicides before practice, morning and evening practices. One thing that he knows, is that Saginaw high always out toughing us with fake toughness. So top it off Coach Mcmath, brings back his championship team from 2006 to scrimmage us the whole week before the big game. These are grown man with buffy, barrel-chested, some are slightly built and some are strapping. He believes the long, sweaty and abusive practices is the cause of our success, because we always have the 5 star players but just lack of toughness when it comes to this game. The best part about practices the week of the game is the gear we receive. Coach calls us in his offices one by one, it smells nice and fresh. The cold air hits your face. You take a look around. That’s when you see them! All the random shoes and gear. “It’s the pair of new shoes we’ll be wear for this game and get some socks from the box” he’ll say. Once you approach them, and take a look at them you know it's
I began training every single day trying to make sure that this never happened again and that my teammates could count on me every time I went out there. I began training with One On One Kicking as well every other Sunday and they have helped immensely. Over the next 10 months I would train for our first game of the 2016 season against Chancellor High School, our cross town rivals.
I attended the Common Reader Event El Otro Lado: Central American Perspectives on Immigration. Throughout the duration of this event two immigrants (Gloria from Guatemala and Christian from Honduras) shared the stories of their journeys, what the immigration process was like for them, and their reasonings behind coming to America.
I’d been looking forward to this tournament all season as this was recreation softball and I was about to kick everyone’s butt. Rec softball was just a time filler while I didn’t have traveling softball going on anyway. But this tournament did not go along with my “kick everyone’s butts” plan, in fact I only got to play one game out of the whole tournament.
For this mock business, I’m partnering with Daniel Mills to create a child and youth sports center. The center is going to be called “Defending Champs Youth Center”. It will be a non-profit business. The center will have youth and young child development programs and activities for low income families. We will provide low cast care, education, and sporting events and activities for the youth and young children in the Belton, Texas area. The reason why we want to create this center is because there isn’t a cheap center for kids to go to with the things that we will offer. The center will be much cheaper than the Belton center that is already there in Belton. Also, our center will provide more services and products than that center. Our organizations mission statement is, “Use Christian principles to help younger kids through different sports and demonstrate a sincere concern for others, and for
It was a brisk fall evening, and my seventh grade youth football team and I had traveled to Aberdeen to play the undefeated Chiefs. We had worked harder and longer than we ever had that week to show that we were a threat in the league and ascend from our third place ranking. We knew it was not going to be easy; the Chiefs’ team had the fastest running back in our division, and they had scored more total points per game than any other team in the Southeast Idaho Youth Football League. The field was neater and greener than we had expected in this town. It was a great day for football, and I was with all of my best friends. I knew going in that it was going to be a learning experience whether we won or lost that night because the Chiefs were
We passed all the security guards who all wished us good luck in our game. We finally arrived to our locker room where we all picked out a spot according to our position that we played. Our coach told us that all the defense and goalies should sit together and all the forwards should sit close. The second the team opened up their bags the raunchy stench of body odor filled the room. I set the stereo up and started playing the Rocky song that we would always listen to before every big game. The players were all dressed in our uniforms when the coach told us that he had a surprise for us. He yanked a box form the hallway and pulled out our new jerseys that he ordered for the great accomplishment. This reward reminded everyone of our unbelievable journey to the state game. Coach handed the jerseys out telling us the pride we should feel as we slip the sweater on. We had twenty minutes until the challenge when our coach ordered everyone to be quiet for his pre-game speech. He started out telling us how proud he was to be our coach and whatever happens in the next two hours he commends us. The rest of the speech was the strategy he wanted to use if we encounter any problems. In his final words the horn rang telling both the teams that it was time to take the ice.
The Canterbury Tales is strongly considered one of the greatest works in medieval literature. An admirer of Chaucer, and the author of Chaucer and the Fifteenth Century, H.S. Bennett describes Chaucer’s unique style as, “No detail was too small for him to observe, and from it he could frequently draw, or suggest, conclusions which would have escaped many.” While The Canterbury Tales was originally intended to be an epic poem consisting of over 120 short stories, Chaucer’s death came much sooner and he was only able to finish 24. Even with a small fraction of his original goal completed, Chaucer’s unique sense of language and ability to identify and establish common stereotypes was second to none. The three characters I choose, The Knight, The Pardoner and The Parson all exemplify Bennett’s quote and demonstrate Chaucer’s incredible ability to express every detail, while adding humor and irony.
From my past experiences at Blair, I’ve come to realize that school spirit at Blair is very interesting, in that, there is either very little school spirit at sporting events or so much of it. I have found it that there is almost always no in between. I really love to embrace that Blair school pride, which is why my two favorite events are Soccerfest and Peddie Day. These are really the only two days where everyone really comes together as a school and bond over one common goal: to beat North Warren and Peddie. Sadly, however, this past weekend was my last Soccerfest. This was the last time I was able to slap on face paint with friends, take silly photos, then load the buses to drive less than three minutes up the road to hopefully beat North
My team was playing in Denver at the Mountain Madness tournament, our last tournament of the year. It was the second day of the tournament and after suffering a loss earlier that morning, we really needed to play well if we wanted any chance at playing in the championship game the next day. I played for a
