The 4 Elements that Hip-Hop is comprised of is Graffiti, B-Boying, DJ’ing and MC’ing. Each element played an integral role in establishing the base of Hip-Hop, but also jumpstarting a cultural revolution. It is important to break down each one of the 4 Elements so we can have a better understanding of what each one is and the specific contributions they made. Graffiti was born in Philadelphia in the 1960s and involved artists spray-painting writings or images onto various pieces of property. “Cornbread” and “Cool Earl”, from Philadelphia, are cited as the originators of the graffiti phenomenon. New York City wasn’t a part of the graffiti game until the early 1970s. Some of the early notable NYC artists include “Julio 204” and “Joe 182”. Traditionally graffiti was used as a means of self-expression and oftentimes as a political message. Graffiti’s spirit of rebellion and creativity helped align it with the other elements of Hip-Hop even though it is often condemned as vandalism, anti-social and destructive. …show more content…

This form of skill and expression originated from the Bronx, NY and was created by a DJ known for spinning at block parties by the name of DJ Kool Herc. While breaking is normally performed by one B-boy at a time they often form groups known as crews. Some of the early legendary crews include the New York City Breakers, Dynamic Rockers and the world famous Rock Steady
