The 48 Hours: A Family Accused video detailed the journey of the Amirault family who were accused of sexual assault by the children who attended their day care which could have been falsely made due to the improper interviewing techniques used. Throughout the video, there are several issues made by those who interviewed the children that could have influenced, or even caused children to completely fabricate, their testimony. One of the largest mistakes made by those investigating the case was putting information about the case in the newspaper. The investigators called for the parents to ask their children about specific things that related to the case; this gave the children information about the case that they would have not known otherwise
During the year of 2015, a case that the Innocence Project was working on at the time was the Joseph Buffey Case. Joseph Buffey was convicted in 2001 in West Virginia of rape and robbery. Mr. Buffey pled guilty to the crimes based on the advise of his counsel and witness misidentification which was the heart of this investigation. On May 11, 2015, Mr. Buffey was excluded by DNA and the real perpetrator was later found. Mr. Buffey served a total of 15 years in prison for a crime that he did not commit. DNA Exonerations makes up 334 total cases that the Innocence Project has worked on. The following numbers overlap with the 334 cases. 237 cases involved misidentification by witnesses, 154 were the result of improper forensics, 92 were due to

All through the United States the African American community has been targeted by the Caucasian community. We are in the year 2015 and still to this day we are having the same problem our grandparents and their ancestors were dealing with in today’s modern society. A young lady by the name of Renisha McBride became another victim of racism, she was shot and killed asking for help after she was in a car accident. The accident happened in Dearborn Heights Michigan, which is 20 minutes away from the major city Detroit. This is an unfortunate event that happens all the time throughout the country.
horrendous crime was committed for over a decade and was covered up by the top leaders of the university community. The crime was committed by an assistant coach of penn state university. The Casey Anthony trial was a controversial and a media-encompassed case that followed the disappearance of Caylee Anthony – a two year old girl who lived in Orlando, Florida. The case began on terms that were less than adequate, when Casey’s mother, Cindy Anthony, called authorities on the basis that she had not seen her granddaughter for over 30 days. It should also be acknowledged that the mother had even stated, in her own words, that Casey’s car “smelled like there’d been a dead body,” in it. Investigation led to portion after portion of evidence, along with even more questions on what had befallen Caylee after it turned out that her mother had falsified a slew of information. The original story that Casey offered stated that she had left
Bennett another reporter took a different approach to covering the murder. He was looking at the murder and wondering how a young respectable man could be accused of such a heinous crime. He refused to believe that this crime could be committed by a man with such a promising life ahead of him.

Indeed, as with previous iterations of guidance, the legal policies of investigative practice can be difficult to implement outside of the formal judicial system: a lack of proper evidentiary handling and a fundamental misunderstanding of the process whereby facts are determined can prove impediments to a fair and impartial investigation. Moreover, the hearing process itself and the limitations imposed on the ability of both the Complainant and the Respondent to directly question and cross-examine one another make it difficult for an institution to adhere to the fundamental due process rights implied in the Letter under certain conditions: “Public and state-supported schools must provide due process to the alleged perpetrator.” Herein, another difficulty arises with respect to the ambiguity
As unfortunate it was that they got thrown in prison the judge only scraped the surface of what happened purely because he assumed likewise that they killed those kids and just like that their reputations were ruined in an
The book "The Jefferson County Egan Murders" is about the three Egan's who were murdered on New Year's Eve in 1964. Barbara (age 24), Peter (age 27), and Gerald (age 19, and younger brother of Peter) Egan were criminals. All of Jefferson County knew about them. The Egan's were burglars. They were well known to the police, especially in Watertown. At this time, they were under investigation for a string of burglaries. The police knew it was them, but knowing is not proving. Peter was wanted for 13 car theft investigations. His license was suspended when he and Barbara got into a high speed chase with police. Peter and Barbara switched spots, so she was driving, so Peter would not get charged with driving without a license. This was a well-known
The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the practices conducted by law enforcement during the investigation of the murder of Ashley Smith. The following pages will discuss the crime scene investigation, the evidence collection, the investigative steps following the initial crime scene investigation, the interviews of witnesses and suspects, and other strategies performed by the acting case investigators. Twenty years later information surfaced that suggested that the evidence in the two previous trials had been tampered with. The Assistant District Attorney, with the help of Evers's widow, began compiling a new case. (Elliot Jr., pg.1)
We have read in the news recently that there are plenty of public defenders who are facing budget cuts and are in a financial crisis. This can be seen by a chief public defender in New Orleans who has had to resort to turning clients away. The public defender’s office in New Orleans is understaffed, currently employing 42 overworked lawyers, in relation to the 72 attorneys and 20 investigators it employed in 2008. These go against the standard set by the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice and the ABA Guidelines for the Appointment and Performance of Counsel in Death Penalty Cases. The National Standards point to the caseload maximus prescribed by the National Advisory Commission (NAC) on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals, a 1973 U.S. Department

Topic 1 I think this whole situation was wrong and they should have retried the case. People should not be allowed to use any research finding off of the web especially Wikipedia. Most of the time you aren’t even allowed to use this site in school because it is something that can be edited by the outside public. I think the people who posted the information should face consequences because they impeded on a murder investigation.
