This is my second semester at Rowan University and over my time here I have truly grown as a student. I have grown and learned more than I thought possible inside and outside of the classroom, resulting in me becoming a better critical thinker. I graduated number seventh of my graduating class at Central High School in Newark NJ already knowing that I wanted to study business management prior to going to school for culinary arts. I graduated haven taken numerous English courses including AP English believing that I had the foundation to write any and every type of paper. CC2 this semester has taught me a lot about the art of literature and language, and the process of writing. Overall with the help of the five core values, I have learned how…show more content…
Core value three, “Understand that writing is shaped by audience, purpose, and context”, helped me use my words to tell so much more than a story but a purpose. I learned how purpose and context can add elements to a writing piece that make show meaning. they bring up the past and people and cultures that are long gone. I had to take into consideration community standards in regards to the value of life, the difference in meanings of terms to society, and the quality of community living in certain areas. An example of this is in paper two where I had to acknowledge that the Black community has a lot of violence occurring amongst one another, giving a reason for people to have a mindset when in it. But, I also had to remember that judgements like this will remain as long people just accept them.
Overall, as a student prior to taking CC2 I knew my ability to write and express my ideas, thoughts and knowledge, and since then I have grown stronger over this semester. There are still many concepts and skills that I lack confidence but because of this course I have become a better critical thinker. I know that as a result of taking CC2 I can share my knowledge and ideas with other people who may have no idea what I am talking about. In conculsion, I am satisfied with the progression I made over this
