(500) Days of summer.
Whenever love appear not to work for two individuals, there will be breakups, loss and recollection. The theme of love revolves around breakups, and recollection after love towards someone has failed to materialize.
The film (500) Days of summer is a film that present one of the most unique style as it comes out in a nonlinear narrative. This means that the film focuses different day in which the main character’s activities were considered worth airing or presenting. The film revolves around an intimate relationship between two individuals, Tom Hansen and Summer Finn. Summer Finn joins Tom’s place of work as an assistant to his boss, (Steelberg et al). During this time, Tom is Tom is working as a writer despite the fact

It is evident that Tom is slowly falling in love with her. At this point in time, summer make Tom believe she does not believe in anything about love. To some extent, this was one of the ways of keeping Tom at bay. It is clear according to this play or film that with her negative attitude towards love relationships, Tom’s efforts to make her fall in love may never bear the expected fruits. This is simply because summer did not find a scent of true love in Tom. They were not compatible in some way as she had not discovered or been sure about his feeling towards Tom, (Steelberg et …show more content…
The main them that set in in the film is the theme of loss. To ensure that Tom gets over his losses after the breakup, they get his younger sister, Rachael to console him and help him move on with his life, (Steelberg et al). It therefore clear that his experience with summer is what led Tom to feeling a great loss but on the other hand, it helped her view life with a different perspective. This is because, after the break up, Tom understands that breaking up with summer was like spilt milk which can never be collected in any way. He had to move on with his life given that he was over the bitter feelings after the heart break, (Steelberg et
Summer, one of the most happiest and upbeat seasons is representational to the characters emotions in the story. Finny and Gene were clearly at their happiest point in the story during this time. They got along, there was not any spite, any evil, or any competition. They were just two best friends, co-existing as one. The scene at the beach is definitely a perfect representation for how the characters were feeling.
Mike Lupica, ESPN commentator and well-known sports writer for young adults, wrote Summer Ball. Summer Ball is primarily set at Right Way Basketball Camp. The main character, Danny Walker, and his friends, Ty Ross, Will Stoddard, and Tarik Meminger go to Right Way along with boys from all over the country to improve their basketball skills. They also hope to make new friends and possibly catch the eye of college scouts over the length of summer camp. Right Way helps Danny learn how to prove himself against outside expectations and self-doubts. Danny experiences his troubles when his Right Way coach, Edward Powers, doesn 't believe in Danny and tries to break him down any way he can. Coach Powers represents all of Danny 's fears around basketball and his place as a basketball player. At Right Way Camp, Danny and his friends work hard and struggle through tough games in order to prove themselves as basketball players.

The theme of the novel is that everything is not what it seems. This was demonstrated when the author wrote “I didn't know there was a sketch on my painting. I flip over the paper, to see what dad has written on the back. Theres the date, 5 years ago. And the words Eloise, Les Deux Chemins. Wait. I don't understand”(Friedman 158). This quote demonstrates the theme because she thought the skech was of her but it was really something else. The sketch was of her secret sister Eloise that she did not know she had. When Summer found out that the painting of what she thought was her for the past 5 years was actually someone else she was shocked and she was also upset with her dad for not telling her.
One is able to notice the clear connections between Fosters explanation of seasons, and the use of summer vacation in Oates’s short story. The first time summer vacation is mentioned in the story it is followed by mentioning Connie's desire for the boys the she often daydreams about. “...and the rest of the time Connie spent around the house - it was summer vacation - getting in her mother’s way and thinking, dreaming about the boys she met.”(Oates, 2) The trait of adulthood, romance, and sexual experience are all part of the characteristics of summer. The author uses summer in order to set the mood for this novel, as summer initially signifies this romance and sex in this story. The sex aspect of summer is not always used positively as it soon becomes part of Connie’s downfall. On the other side of summer’s characteristics, it can also represent a hot, dusty, and irritable mood. “It was a little flatter, as if the heat was finally getting to him.” (Oates, 4) At this point in the story things turn uncomfortable for Connie as she suspects that Arnold is not who he says he is. The heat of the
She is hoping to depend on Tom, that he will change her life around for her. She is a child with to big of an ego to see that not everything will fall into the path she wants it
As time progresses Summer is made aware that Tom has an interest in her. Even though Summer has made her opinion known that she does not believe in love, they soon portray the obvious characteristics of mutual attraction and of being in a relationship. This most likely can be attributed to reciprocal liking; Summer starting to like Tom more, simply because she knows Tom likes her.
(500)" Days of Summer" (2009) is a creative approach to the romantic comedy genre. An unidentified male narrator warns us early on that "This is a story of boy meets girl. This is not a love story." The film is a story about love while it may or may not end the way we expect, it's a more real, complicated, and a believable love story then any number of romantic comedies that we been exposed to. Most movies usually tell us that true love is possible with whomever we choose if only we want it enough. "Hollywood" likes to distort reality and put most romantic entanglements into a happy ending with a cute bow on it, this movie brings us back to the
Tom had a double role in the play as both the narrator and a main character that lived through a recollection of what life was like living with his mother and sister before he abandoned them to seek adventure. Tom’s behavior in the play could lead to question if his memory is truly accurate. SparkNotes comments, “…But at the same time, he demonstrates real and sometimes juvenile emotions as he takes part in the play’s action. This duality can frustrate our understanding of Tom, as it is hard to decide whether he is a character whose assessments should be trusted or one who allows his emotions to affect his judgment” (SparkNotes.com). Through his behavior a person is reminded that memory can be flawed by emotions or time elapsing, this would need to be taken into account when analysis of such a character is done. Tom is full of contradictions as he reads literature, writes poetry, and dreams of an escape; however he also felt bound by duty to his sister and mother. Another contradiction was that while he professed to care about his sister as seen in his ending comments in the play, “…I tried to leave you behind me, but I am more faithful than I intended to be!...” (Williams), Tom never went back to reconnect with his sister. This could be because of the great shame he felt for abandoning his sister or because of another reason. He stated that he had been in several cities over the years but never speaks of going back to St. Louis, making it unclear if he
Throughout my lifetime, there have been moments of laughter as well as grief. The first time I felt what it was truly like to lose the love of my life I ended up heartbroken and devastated. From that moment on my perception of love changed completely. The song by Christian Nodal- “Adios Amor” showed me how at times when the love fades between partners to the point where there is no love at all, you have to do your best to move on rather than spending time grieving the love that is lost. Therefore, the song “Adios Amor” taught me that some relationships are best to let go of if they don’t work as a young adult, and will continue to guide me throughout my life.
At the onset of the book, Young Tom has just been released from prison and is interested in making up for lost time and enjoying himself. He is a strong family support during the journey but is among the first to begin reaching out to a larger family. At the end he has focused on the plight and abuse of all the homeless farmers and recognizes that they must
Webb uses body language to show intimacy. The intimacy between both characters is shown when Tom and Summer are holding hands, almost lovingly, as they race towards the bedroom section of the store. This common action is often naturally done by couples to show they find comfort in each other’s presence. Webb also establishes Tom’s facial expression with close up shots as he stares at Summer (while they both lie on the bed facing towards each other) with an almost love struck expression, signifying as if being with Summer is all he’s ever wanted. Thus portraying how mentally and emotionally enchanted he is with her. These facial expressions reinforce the supposed intimacy in their relationship but later on leave the viewers confused when Summer denies she is looking for anything serious and Tom
Summer talks about the story of a young woman’s discovery of sexual desire. From the start, Charity is completely inexperienced when it comes to men. Charity is first attracted and is intrigued by Harney and starts to develop feelings for him as she spends more time with him. All she desires is sexual fulfillment. The novel opens with nothing going on in town and then she steps down from the buggy. As she looks at him through the bathroom window, she feels “All her old resentments and… confusedly mingled with the yearning roused by Harney’s nearness.” (chapter 7, page 3) And when they have begun their affair, she feels that “all the rest of life” (Wharton 1) has become the central glory of their passion. Charity waits for Harney in their secret
Imagine living without the sun, the sun that gives off warmth and happiness for many people. Tom and Lily have not seen the sun in countless years. The setting illustrates what Tom, Lily and all the citizens are missing now that it has been gone for many years. The dress will symbolize the sunshine and happiness that has been lost ever since the nuclear bomb. The characterization focuses on Tom and Lily and how they are the dynamic characters to show that when something slips away from someone, they will do anything to get it back. In “Searching For Summer” by Joan Aiken, the theme appreciate what is given in life before it is lost is portrayed through the use of setting, symbolism, and characterization to reveal that people do not notice
The movie is based upon a graphic novel by Frank Miller (of comic book fame). They are both based upon a one of the most famous battles in the Persian Wars (492 - 449 BC), The Battle of Thermopylae.
