In the mid 1800s, two men were born who would later impact the field of electricity in a powerful way. These two men were known as Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. Tesla and Edison would eventually cross paths and cause what is known in history as “The War of the Currents”.
Imagine a world with no phones, computers, or even an easily accessible light source. If there were no technological inventions in the previous centuries, then our technology would not exist. Thomas Alva Edison was born in Milan, Ohio on February 11, 1847. He had an entrepreneurial spirit at an early age and was very talented. Edison took out his first patent when he was 20 years old and his last one was taken out before his death. Overall, Thomas took out 1,093 patents. He is one of the most famous and influential inventors in the history of the world. Thomas Edison's inventions were numerous, but his most important contributions are the first electric light bulb, the phonograph, and motion pictures.
Who is Thomas Edison? Before learning about his other inventions I only knew Thomas Edison as the man who invented the electrical light bulb. Did you know the light bulb was not Thomas Edison’s only invention? Yes it is the most the popular and is still used today but Thomas Edison is also responsible for many inventions that have helped make advances in Mass Communications. These inventions include the kinetograph/kinetophone, phonograph and multiple models of the telegraph and telephone. Due to the success of these inventions Thomas Edison holds 1,093 U.S patents and has received a plethora of awards. (Inventors.about.com, n.d.) Thomas Edison’s inventions have made him pioneer in recording music and motion picture, hence making him an important inventor in the world of Mass Communications. The inventions of Thomas Edison have been duplicated many times. His work still has an impact on the things that we use today. I believe Thomas Edison is an inventor with one of the biggest impacts on our modern day technology. Most of his inventions were ahead of its time making it hard for some people to operate which is why some of his inventions did not receive as much praise as it should’ve. (Wikipedia Website , n.d.)
Now you really need to think Thomas Edison was responsible for some of the world's leading innovations back in his time he was laying the road for further generations to build off of. In the end it wasn't enough Edison was a very great inventor but Da Vinci was better, Da Vinci was the first to beat him to starting
Nikola Tesla is regarded as one of the most brilliant inventors in history. His work provided the basis for the modern alternating current power system, as well as having developed both radio and the fluorescent light bulb. He worked with Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, among others. He was also widely misunderstood by his peers and the public at large.
In 1879, Thomas Edison invented the first incandescent light bulb in a competitive community. The invention of the electrical light bulb was built on commutative work done by previous scientists and researchers. Edison was invited to William Wallace workshop to examine the Wallace’s prototype. Edison thought that the prototype has something wrong, “I believe that I can beat you making the electrical light. I do not think that you are working in the right direction” Edison told Wallace [1]. Therefore, he decided to do make his own electrical light and there race was started. After a week of his visit to Wallace workshop, Edison was already invented the first light bulb. The success that was achieved by Edison led to a big success for his company,
Thomas Alva Edison is one of the most influential people of his time. This native born Ohioan is credited with many invention that we use today and that many of us take for granted. Countless hours of hard work went into everything he accomplished. That drive is what made him the man he was and defined him as an individual.
A lot of people know of Samuel Adams, but do they know anything about him other than that he’s one of our founding fathers? Samuel Adams was one of many of our founding fathers. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was married to one Elizabeth Checkley from 1749 to 1757. He also worked as multiple things like a politician, a brewer, a revolutionary, and tax collector.
The textbook definition of honor is a high respect. But my definition would be someone who you can look up to and believe they will always make the right decision no matter what. Thomas Edison is one of the many honorable scientist. Edison was one of the most famous scientist of the electrical age. Some of his most well known inventions are the phonograph, the light bulb, the vote recorder, and his motion picture. Edison was born February 11th 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He is the 7th and last child. Ironically he only attended school for 3 months in Huron, Mich.He became a telegraph operator after he saved three-year-old Jimmie MacKenzie from being struck by a runaway train. Jimmie's father was so grateful that he trained Edison as a telegraph operator. Edison's first telegraphy job away from Port Huron was at Stratford Junction, Ontario. On December 25, 1871, he married 16-year-old Mary Stilwell, whom he had met two months earlier; she was an employee at one of his shops. They had three children. Mary Edison died at age 29 on August 9, 1884, of unknown causes. On February 24, 1886, at the age of thirty-nine, Edison married the 20-year-old Mina Miller. She was the daughter of the inventor Lewis Miller, co-founder
Thomas Edison impacted technology as we know it today. He invented a variety of devices that influenced people around the world. In 1891 the Edison Company invented the Kinetoscope and the kinetophone. The Kinetoscope allowed one person at a time to view moving pictures. The person would use this device to look though a peep-hole while listening to the phonograph which connected to the kinetophone.
When Tesla had designed and patented most of his patents George Westinghouse offered to work with Tesla. Tesla agreed and with Tesla's inventions Westinghouse would go on to light the World's Columbian Exposition and create the worlds first alternating current dam at Niagara Falls in New York.
The age of the Enlightenment was a time when people were coming together and creating new ideas and inventions to improve the life of the people. Many things were made during this time period, and without them life today would be very different. Examples of some of these inventions are the light bulb and the phonograph that Thomas Edison is credited with inventing. With the light bulb, our days would be cut short due to fact that people can’t see in the dark. Without the light bulb and phonograph things like TVs, cell phones, computer, and other electronic devices that people today can not live without would have never been thought of. The focus of this essay is what caused Edison to become an inventor and some of his inventions like the previously stated light bulb and phonograph.
Thomas Edison is seen as the grandfather of technology to most but, not all. Edison is seen to some as a villain in history as he has gotten credit for ideas such as the light bulb that had come from someone else. The truth is Edison is both not an angel nor devil. Edison is a hero because of his large amount of inventions, he took challenges and used them for strength over weaknesses, and he is seen as a role model as both an engineer along with a person in general. Edison could also seen as bad from the fact sometimes he let his wealth control him and some of is innovation ideas are believed to have been stolen. The truth is Edison is neither extreme however should be viewed much more positively than negatively.
This is Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison is a famous inventor who invented lots of things that we use today. He was born a very long time ago in the United States of America.
I decided to do my report on Thomas Alva Edison because he brought a lot of things into our world. He invented the light bulb, the alkaline battery, the phonograph, and many other things. Many of our modern electronics origins came from Thomas A. Edison. I thought he was very interesting. That is why I chose him.
