This lesson seemed to be successful, but if I could make changes I would have grouped the students differently. The students in this 8th grade class do not get to pick where they sit. I have created a seating chart that puts the students into mixed ability groups. The groups, for the most part, consist of at least one high ability student, one low ability student and two average ability students. Students remain in these seats for every class period and every group activity. However, on the day of this lesson I had several absent students. This left me with two groups of two students and one group with only one individual. To avoid disruption and wasted time I quickly regroup 4 out of my 6 groups. Upon reflecting on this lesson, I realized
To be perfectly honest my recollection of Comp 121 is a little foggy, i took the course roughly a year and a half ago and during my first semester and it was one of my first college level courses. From what i can recall it was a interesting and enjoyable, The professor Jacob Sherlock is no longer with the school, but was a professional writer along with a life-long lover and student of the written word. We regularly discussed current events and the class wide give and take of various ideas and viewpoints was truly enlightening and are easily amongst my most enjoyable and memorable college experiences. In particular i vibrantly recall a passionate debate on gun-control which was to be frank, dominated by a extremely Conservative former Army
What I learned in the documentary called “The First Year” is the aspects of each teacher’s way they deal a classroom with students as first-timers. Especially when coming across to many challenges and the struggle they had during their first time ever as educators. Watching what lengths they will go to for the benefit of the students is admirable. The teachers who are into five separate schools in the Los Angeles area are known to be George Acosta who teaches English as a second language, Joy Kraft-Watts teaches high school history, Genevieve Debose teaches middle school language arts and social studies, Maurice Rabb teaches kindergarten, Nate Monley teaches fifth-grade bilingual education, and Andrew Glass teaches elementary special education.
I had my appointment on the previous week at the Writing center. I brought my 2nd project for ENGL 160 class. I scheduled tutor to “face to face”, because I think it is the best way to improve all of my mistakes. Before going to Writing center, I was thinking that this tutor doesn’t help me at all, but fortunately my thoughts was wrong and I enjoyed 1 hour of editing my project.

My class is very diverse when it comes to the students learning levels. I have some students that have a really hard time focusing and needs lots of reminders to stay on topic. Because of this, I decided to make a lot of my lessons group lessons. I would sterically plan my pairs or groups that if there where students that had a hard time focusing, they would be paired with students that can keep them on track as well as be kind to them. I know sometimes students that
I hope that your winter break was relaxing yet productive. Over the break, I watched a documentary that featured Crellin Elementary School in Crellin, Maryland. The purpose of this documentary is to show how real schools are putting democratic education into practice and what steps the school is taking to cultivate a democratic school environment. After watching the documentary, I took a brief trip to Crellin Elementary School to get a better idea of how to put democratic education into practice. Two results of putting democratic education into practice include encouraging parent involvement and student voice; which are three aspects of democratic education I look forward to implementing into my classroom this new year.
Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the
EDUC 641 was an interesting course that made me look at distance education is whole different light. Prior to taking this course, I did not have a firm understanding of the roles and responsibilities of an eModerator, nor understood how many hats they wear in order to make online courses run smoothly. Compared to a moderator in traditional classroom setting, eModerators have to acquire certain skills that normal moderators may not have, including keeping discussions on track, contributing knowledge without interfering with student self-directed learning, scanning, weaving and summarizing student responses, as well as keeping group harmony in discussions. The e-moderator must acquire technical and communication skills, understand the content
I chose to arrange my students’ desks in clusters of four, so that my students will be able to interact on specific assignments and group activities daily. I will not have four random students in each group, but rather place a high, low, low medium, and high medium learning ability student in each cluster. This will allow me to sometimes pair two lows or two highs or a high and a low together. This will be an advantage for all students because the highs will be able to assist the lows by demonstrating what needs to be done, while they are helping themselves from understanding concepts in a more intellectual way because they will be explaining them to others. These clusters are placed in the center of the room so
Students in grade five and six have been participating in basketball intramurals once a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays respectfully during their lunch hour. There are no skills taught during this time, rather the students are coming to play, have fun and break a sweat of course! The games last approximately 25 minutes and we have been fortunate to have enough students show up to create four teams. The kids get a chance to play each team during the lunch period. We are now adding another grade to the mix and welcome grade four students to participate every Friday until the Winter
As the semester started, I had set my mind that I was destined to achieve a lot. During the start of the semester, I had several difficulties writing English assignments especially in terms of grammar. During the first week of the semester, I sat down, organized my thoughts and comprehended that throughout the semester, I had to achieve all that I had planned for. As a student of English, I had planned that throughout the semester, I had to improve my skills as a scholar, writer and critical thinker. Now that the semester has ended, I can reflect all the semester activities to depict how my writing skills and critical thinking skills have drastically improved. This paper presents a reflection paper of how this
When I started this Course 1301 I uses to be worry because I did know what kind of assignment, homework, essay and exam I'm going to facing. The first day I was fear what kind of Professor he is. But I come to realize it was fun, challenge, entertaining class, and the Professor he was very helpful, easy to understanding him the material he give in the class. Even though you write essay but you not sure, you can approaching Professor to correct you essay before you submit. I ended up have confidence back I can finish my course in peace. However, I enjoyed this course when it come to watch movie and explain brief what did you understand according to the movies you watch. The next I enjoyed this course when you write essay and you have to researching
I am looking forward to the assignments that we have because a few of your previous students told me the topics were interesting. That wasn't including the amount that they had to write, but if it is an interesting topic then writing shouldn't be a problem. I want to become a better writer and I am kind of excited about the activities or assignments that you will have us do. If it is anything similar to what we did towards the end of your class last year, so be it.The amount of time that this class requires outside of class is what I worry about most, due to the fact that you are the teacher and this is an AP class. Some of us take a lot of AP classes, so more than likely a full eight hours of sleep won't be in the picture. I'd prefer not
I have my students seating in rows and groups. I have four groups that contain 4-5 students per group. I also have three rows and two students seating alone. I prefer to have all of my students seating in groups because I do a lot of stations throughout the day. Therefore, originally I had
I gathered everyone in the group and asked them to stand in front of me. I then explained that they had to be a little closer and less spread out. At the start they were not positioned the best, but I was able to get everyone to move closer using appropriate cues. Next time I could set markers for the students to line up so that I wouldn’t have
