I had my appointment on the previous week at the Writing center. I brought my 2nd project for ENGL 160 class. I scheduled tutor to “face to face”, because I think it is the best way to improve all of my mistakes. Before going to Writing center, I was thinking that this tutor doesn’t help me at all, but fortunately my thoughts was wrong and I enjoyed 1 hour of editing my project.
riting 101 was the second college course I have taken. Before I started taking college classes, I had not attended any type of academic classes sine I graduated high school in 2012. Going into this course, I thought I was not going to benefit very much from it but I was wrong. I had forgotten the majority of what I learned in high school. This writing course not only helped me to refresh my writing skills, but also taught me new things that I know will be helpful as I continue my education. When I realized I had to take this class I thought it would be easy for me. I soon realized that even though I had taken advanced classes in high school, in many ways I was not prepared for college level writing.
In response to the Gamewell Middle School student hazing, I never lost my patience or “cool” with these students and encouraged them to be inquisitive. I also told them if I did not know the answer, I would look it up. We even made a game out of the situation. If a student knew about at topic relevant to the curriculum that I did not, he or she was awarded extra credit for outsmarting the teacher. Internally, I was always nervous regarding whether or not I was good enough to be teaching this course, as it was out of my comfort zone. I also felt like to them it was a bit of a slap in the face as the majority of my students were North Carolinians; I did not feel I had the right to intrude on their territory when they knew much more about the
As the semester started, I had set my mind that I was destined to achieve a lot. During the start of the semester, I had several difficulties writing English assignments especially in terms of grammar. During the first week of the semester, I sat down, organized my thoughts and comprehended that throughout the semester, I had to achieve all that I had planned for. As a student of English, I had planned that throughout the semester, I had to improve my skills as a scholar, writer and critical thinker. Now that the semester has ended, I can reflect all the semester activities to depict how my writing skills and critical thinking skills have drastically improved. This paper presents a reflection paper of how this
Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the
Throughout my four years of high school I have maintained about a B average and have had comments from teachers saying that I am a “conscientious student.” My most difficult subjects have been any science class or the 2 AP classes that I thought I was strong-minded enough to take. The first semester of my freshman year, I had straight A’s; then, the next semester I fell off and my straight A’s weren’t so straight anymore. My sophomore year, I had a lot of trouble with my biology class, and had a D the first semester, but raised it second semester. My junior year was probably the most stressful for me. The AP classes that I took were more than I could handle. This year I’m not taking a math class, an AP class, or a science class which has probably helped my GPA so much. I am much more satisfied with my grades this year than I have been in the past. My grades have taught me that I
My tenth grade year of high school proved to be a year saturated with learning. The class that made me see that the most was English II. I gained a great deal of knowledge regarding my writing abilities, and I realized that I was not as skilled in the subject of English as I had previously thought. This class taught me to appreciate English, and it eventually became my favorite subject. Weaknesses, strengths, and new discoveries abounded that year, but they all eventually led me to success.
I am looking forward to the assignments that we have because a few of your previous students told me the topics were interesting. That wasn't including the amount that they had to write, but if it is an interesting topic then writing shouldn't be a problem. I want to become a better writer and I am kind of excited about the activities or assignments that you will have us do. If it is anything similar to what we did towards the end of your class last year, so be it.The amount of time that this class requires outside of class is what I worry about most, due to the fact that you are the teacher and this is an AP class. Some of us take a lot of AP classes, so more than likely a full eight hours of sleep won't be in the picture. I'd prefer not
L’s class, there are many students who are in TST tiers, have an IEP, or have a 504 plan. This teacher and her switch teacher are known for their ability to work with lower level students successfully. Because of the diversity of the class, grouping is typically based on ability level. If Mrs. L groups the students for centers, there is always a high and low level of ability in each group. The in between students are placed accordingly. After inquiring Mrs. L about how she groups her students, I learned that she does this primarily to help with behavior issues. She said that if you have a couple of high ability students paired with low ability students, they tend to stay on task more often than not. Mrs. L does not participate in centers, but groups her students in a way that benefits each student for their utmost
The main two ways that I believe that I have grown this year are athletically and academically. Both have helped me to better understand what I might want to do when I grow up. 8th grade just happened to be my very first year ever playing an organized sport. I also made starter for all but one game that season. On the academic side, my 8th grade year was one of my worst school years ever. 9th grade however, had me turning over a new leaf of academic excellence.
When I started this Course 1301 I uses to be worry because I did know what kind of assignment, homework, essay and exam I'm going to facing. The first day I was fear what kind of Professor he is. But I come to realize it was fun, challenge, entertaining class, and the Professor he was very helpful, easy to understanding him the material he give in the class. Even though you write essay but you not sure, you can approaching Professor to correct you essay before you submit. I ended up have confidence back I can finish my course in peace. However, I enjoyed this course when it come to watch movie and explain brief what did you understand according to the movies you watch. The next I enjoyed this course when you write essay and you have to researching
When I first picked this class I had in mind that I speak another language as well, I might be able to bring a different mindset to the class. I can say that the class was not what I picture or would have liked to be. I imagined more of setting where we discuss more languages and how they shape people and their culture.
The students in this classroom were of multiple races. I had an estimated 3 White students, 4 African-American students, and about 7 Hispanic students. From what I can see most of these students are from lower income families. There was a good divide between male and female students. One of the students has cerebral palsy, about 4 students have autism (one also requires a feeding tube), some of these students also cannot control bodily functions yet, one students has a hearing aid, a couple have ADHD, others cannot speak English very well. This class has two connected rooms. One room is where they do most of the learning, the other room is used for storage and physical activity. The room does not have very many bulletin boards but the ones they do have contain the student logins and class schedules. This classroom consists of two rooms, one of which is used for storage and physical activity. Their main classroom setup has the teachers desk in the front and the students desks are put into two groups, the laptops are put in the back of the room. The separation of the desks
Once, in fifth grade, my teacher, let's just call her Ms. A, for some reason, chose me as valedictorian of my class. I honestly don't know why though. Sure I was really nice to everyone and I had “pretty good (but not perfect)” grades in most subjects but I was one of the quietest people in the class. At first, I didn't want anything to do with it because being valedictorian meant giving a huge speech in front of the principal, assistant principals, fellow fifth graders, family, and siblings in the school. I had never spoken or given a speech in front of a small class before, let alone a huge crowd! If you had put me on a stage with no rehearsal or anything, I'd either freeze or hide behind the curtains. The most I’d ever done before was some fun dance performances in the yearly concerts, a talent show that I joined that year with my friends, and Dance Club which I was chosen for some random reason. But anyway, Ms. A made me write a page long speech, which I was okay with since I like writing. Afterwards, she made me go out to the hall to read my speech to a small group of classmates. I can't remind who they were exactly but I know that one of them was my good friend, Joy. I didn't really know them all that well so the second I got outside I was super scared and made up some excuse to use the bathroom (which I did do it wasn't a complete excuse). I was taking my time washing my hands so when I finally left the bathroom, Joy was about to come in. She said something
The week of October16th through October 20th was pretty busy. I had three ARD meetings this week but none of them depicted any issues. All the parents were very complimentary of the teachers and their assistance in providing their children with the necessary tools to be academically successfully. We had our school homecoming on Monday so I was busy assisting the committee on preparation for the evening event. All eight grade teachers are required to be a part of this committee so that includes me. I enjoy events like this because when you participate the students (most) appreciate your hard work and seeing you there at their special event. After school on Monday, October 16th I assisted the band director, cheerleading coach, and football coach in lining up the students outside so we could have a couple run through practices on how the evening would transpire. It was nice seeing all the students and faculty coming together to coordinate and plan such a memorable event. As usual, on Tuesday and Thursday of this week I went to Alexander High School immediately after finishing at Trautmann (whew!). We continued working with the students whose STAAR, benchmark, and CBA scores were low last year so that we can bring them up to par. We have been mainly focusing on seniors, special education, and ELL students so that we can continue documenting procedural safeguards on these students. So far, the numbers have been slowly increasing as we continue calling in students and
