On September 11, 2001, the United States experienced an attack that changed our country forever. It was reported by the New York magazine that 19 hijackers were responsible for the 2,996 deaths that day, leaving our country in shock. The official report stated that there was a total of 4 planes involved; Flight 11 crashed into the North tower, Flight 175 crashed into the South tower, Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon and Flight 93 was overthrown by passengers and later crashed into the ground in Pennsylvania. There is no doubt that this was one of the worst tragedies our country has ever experienced but many still question the truth behind it. September 11th, 2001 was a very traumatic time for the United States. On that day planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and caused the Twin Towers to collapse (“11 Facts”). Along with the Twin Towers collapsing, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC was hit with a plane and another plane crashed down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“11 Facts”). On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat).

Unbelievably a plane was hijacked after those three crashes. We believe it was headed for the White House. The passengers had forced the plane to crash so there wouldn’t have been any more lives taken. Although the passengers knew they would die either way. People were jumping from 100 floors up. Because they didn’t want to burn to death from the fire. They would have died either way. Those who had found themselves below the crash in the tower, were in the “mouth of hell’. Ash and smoke everywhere outside of the towers. Below the tower debris was falling everywhere. The 1st plane was sensed before it was heard. Sensing danger, the dogs had lifted their heads. Those in the north tower, below the crash, rushed to the ground. 343 firefighters and 60 police officers were killed on the day of 9-11. The age range of killed victims were 2-85 years old. In Washington at the Pentagon, 184 people were killed. Around $500,000 was estimated the costs to plan the attack. To pick up 1.8 million tons of debris, it took 3.1 million hours and had cost $750 million to clean all of the debris up. On September 11, 2001, members of the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes. At 8:45 in the morning, an American Airlines plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The incident killed hundreds of people instantly, and trapped hundreds in the burning building (“9/11 Attacks”). Americans thought it was only a freak accident, but less than twenty minutes later, a United Airlines plane crashed into the south tower. It was no longer an accident, but an attack.

Two commercial planes were hijacked by members of Al-Qaeda organization and crashed into tower one and two of WTC making them collapse in less than 15 Seconds, this horrible event killed around 2,996 people, creating panic and chaos in the multitude. September 11th, 2001 was the bloodiest day on American soil since the Civil War. The United States experienced well planned terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and a plane that was headed to Washington D.C, most likely to hit the White House but ended up in a field. A country of nearly three hundred million people nearly came to a pause, meanwhile three thousand people passed away and the nation would be forever changed For some time many people were in shock and afraid to fly. Investigators came to the conclusion that the nation was not prepared for the violence that was planned to have many casualties that was possible and to destroy American symbols of freedom and success.

Imagine a cloud of black smoke covering the sky of your hometown or having to make the choice if you should jump to your death out of a skyscraper because if you didn’t, then you would burn alive. Imagine calling your husband while on a plane while knowing that will be the last time you tell him you love him. Imagine the fear you would feel not knowing if your loved ones survived a terrorist attack. This nightmare on an imaginations became a terrible reality for New Yorkers and American citizens. On September 11, 2001, four aircrafts were hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists. Two of the aircrafts flew into the twin towers in New York City, one aircraft crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth aircraft crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. These terrorist attacks that took place on September 11 resulted in many casualties, an increase in airport security, and the United States invading Afghanistan and the Middle East.

On September 11th, 2001, The United States of America and the rest of the world stared and watched as the first and then second tower of the World Trade Center in New York came under attack by terrorists. At 8:46 am, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. At 9:03 am, the South Tower was struck by another airliner. When 9/11 occurred it was everywhere within minutes. On the Television, radio and outspread panic through the cell phones at the time. Nearby people watched in awe as the first tower, the north tower was hit. Television crews rushed to the scene to be the first to broadcast what had happened. Not even 20 minutes later the second plane crashed into the south tower, causing that tower to start to burn down too. Both planes were from the United Airlines and allegedly hijacked by terrorist. The both planes had about 20,000 gallons of jet fuel on board. The plane collided with the building which caused a huge explosion followed by smoke and debris coming from the building. From that it was clear the United States was under attack.

On September 11th, 2001, a horrific act of terror struck our nation to the core. Fear, devastating and humbling, lodged into our blessed lives. Over 2,800 American civilians were murdered in cold blood when two planes were hijacked and flown directly into the twin towers (Anderson 3). This atrocious event caused the entire country to mourn for its loss, and as American citizens, it is impossible to ignore the destruction of such an event.

September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.

Ever since the bombing of the World Trade Center on February 1993 the United States of America has stepped up its commitment to stopping terrorism. The general public after the bombing also took a new view on Islam, a negative one. The February 7 arrest of Ramzi Yousef made the world open its eyes to Islamic terrorists. The FBI is even involved in terrorist investigations and it does not help the image of the Islamic people that most wanted man by the United States of America is Usama Bin Laden, a Saudi Arabian. He is the leader of the terrorist organization known as Al-Qaeda, which is one of the most active terrorist groups. His central issue is the United States presence in the Arabian Peninsula and the military presence in his former homeland Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden made a declaration in February 1999 in the name of his "International Islamic Front for Jihad against Jews and Crusaders." He stated that "to kill Americans and their allies, both civil and military, is an individual duty of every Muslim who is able, in any country where this is possible." These kinds of statements are immediately taken by the Western media and given to the public. The public of course reacts with anger and creates a bias against

The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization were allegedly acting the U.S. in retaliation for their support of Israel, their involvement in the Persian Gulf War and their military presence in the Middle East. Some of the terrorists lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American flight schools. The others had snuck into the country in the months before September 11th and were considered the “muscle” in the operation. They smuggled box-cutters and knives through the loose security at three East Coast airports and boarded four different airliners bound for California, they chose these flights because they were filled with jet fuel for the long flight across the country. After takeoff, they raided the cockpit of the planes and took control, doing this turned the normal passenger jets into huge missiles.

On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning. Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks…, n.d.). All in all, America was changed forever.
