The 1990’s fashion period was considered the decade of “anti-fashion”, it was said to be the rejections of fashion. Much of the trends that were involved with the 1990s were just a overlap of past trends. The “Grunge” fashion which was inspired by Grunge music that made a hit in the early 1990’s and also “Retro” fashion was in for a majority of the 1990’s as it came back after it was a hit in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Before the big hit with the Grunge style, it was considered an “anti-fashion”. The 1990’s started off with a huge fluorescent clothes trend, fluorescent everything.
Many trends from the past were followed and continued in the 90’s and some new trends were even created. A major love was the parachute pants that made an appearance in the early 90’s. As much as new trends started to reappear, some trends started to disappear such as the acid washed denim fade that ended in the 1990’s, wearing slim fit jeans started to become less and less popular throughout the years. The high hair sprayed hair was replaced with long straight hair with bangs, the mullet for men was only lasting until 1992. For some of the trends that were brought in during the 1990’s some are Doc Martens, high top sneakers and plaid became a very big musthave.

Doc Martens are still a very big and popular company today as well as plaid and high top sneakers and even thing like the hair stayed the same, majority of people today wear their hair straightened and very long. Some styles got drawn from baseball and basketball such as baseball caps wore backwards, baseball jerseys and basketball jersey were popularly wore by teenaged boys. There were many styles that people were able to work with. First off, one of the most common styles was the retro style. Retro was, in a way, inspired by disco. Americans would often wear flares, which were types of jeans where the legs got bigger and “flared” out towards the bottom of the foot (CITATION, #). This proves that retro was just one of the major fashion statements in the 1980s. Another style that Americans tried out was the Glamour style. This fashion included top of the line designers like CoCo Chanel, Versace, and Oscar de la Renta. These designers made a significant impact on the glamorous lifestyle. Glamorous was over the top, but in a fashionable or unique way that people like to dress (CITATION, #). People would wear skirts with a huge puffball at the bottom of it, or switch it up to a nice tight fitting pencil skirt. The economy was a huge factor. Obviously people wanted the best of the best, but the economy was not doing that well (CITATION, #). There were some bad things about the agriculture. Since the United States is just coming out of a recession, they were working on rebuilding businesses in the city so they could expand their business and try to earn back some of the money they lost. Some include being a Peer Leader, a member of SHS, a varsity cheerleader, the Athletic Trainer’s Assistant, and even more involvements inside and outside of school, but two things that I have done that I believe are the most substantial to not only my life but others, is being a cheer coach and a tutor. Leather jackets were the key to knowing who was tough and often would show who was the greasers and the ones that were not. There were women, who changed fashion, and it was in a way that became trendy such as jean shorts, and pants that were considered scandalous to some, but most felt beautiful. Stripes and polka-dots, were highly in fashion, making clothes enjoyable to wear. Though there were many new things being brought in, there were still old fashion from the previous decade, with some poodle skirts. This period was chosen because the new romantic fashions were so different to the punk fashions that had been before, this essay will therefore identify the changes that had taken place to influence this change.
