One Giant Leap We all remember the old rhyme "In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue." That saved me on my 3rd grade history final. That rhyme helps us to remember the year that explorer Christopher Columbus, in an attempt to find an easier trading route to East Indies, discovered a patch of land that was soon referred to as the "New World," what we now refer to as the America's. The 16th and 17th century was rife with exploration across the globe, and with it colonialism. But very soon that old rhyme might be replaced with a new exploration.
