Vincent Van Gogh, born on March 30, 1853, in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands by parents, Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Theodorus Van Gogh. A year before his birth, his older brother was born and died; his name was also Vincent Van Gogh. Anna Cornelia Carbentus, the mother never got over her first child’s death despite having other children. This made Van Gogh somber. Despite this Van Gogh was very close to his young brother Theo. As a little boy, Van Gogh was inspired by his mother to love nature, draw and paint with watercolors. At age 15, Van Gogh was well educated and knew fluent English, German, French and native Dutch. He had to leave school and work because of family finances. He worked at his uncle Cornelis’ art dealership named “Goupil and Cie” in Hague. In June of 1873, he went to the Groupil Gallery in London to work. He was inspired by English Art and was a fan of writers like Charles Dickens and George Eliot. He was in love with his landlady’s daughter, Eugenie Layer, but she rejected him which made him angry. He threw away all his books other than the bible and devoted his life to god. He was fired from the Groupil Gallery because he criticized the art and told customers not to buy the art. He later taught at a Methodist boy’s school where he preached and hoped to be a minister. Vincent van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known artists. He was the son of a pastor and was brought up in a religious atmosphere. He thought his true calling was to preach the gospel like his father. He became a preacher in a small coal mining town. This is when he starting becoming very interested in the people and things that surrounded him. He became an artist at the age of 27.

Biographers speculate that being the replacement child of his brother, who Vincent was the namesake of, could have added to his psychological trauma. Sadly, he was reject from the art school but continued drawings lessons on his own. So over this week i was told from a teacher from my school that i draw like a child and i have no perspective.This to me was not constructive feedback but an attack on me as an individual artist. I will admit i am not the best drawer in the world but i am trying to become better. At frist my reaction was anger , than came tears. I want everyone to know that no matter what anyone says never stop doing what you love.
