There have been many inventions that have served Americans, but very few have had an overall impact on the course of humanity as the cell phone. The history of cell phones has been compared to our discovery of fire and the invention of the wheel. This is partly due to its adaptability to many aspects of human life, as well as its mobility to influence and reach geographical areas that extend to global ones. Around the world, cell phones are used in schools, corporate conglomerates, even religious institutes. Although use of them in cars has been banned in many American states, they continue to govern the way we live our lives. The first one was the infrastructure needed. There was great need to create a system that would be easily adaptable within these occupations, while at the same time offering security and reliability without interfering with each other. A cell phone works as a series of non-invasive processes and actions. When a person dials a number on a handset, this number is converted into an electronic signal. This signal is then relayed to a base station. The base stations are also known as masts and they are the towers seen along road sides and atop buildings. From these towers, the electronic signal is transferred from one base station to another as it seeks a corresponding receiver in the form of another handset. When this signal matches, the phone rings and it can only be regarded as connected when the other party takes the call. This amazing technological advancement opened up new avenues in how we communicate. In the near future, a new process, “LTE, or 'Long Term Evolution,' is the new globally accepted 4G wireless standard. All of the U.S. carriers are turning it on” (PC Magazine). Communication can also be considered as another process. The audio signal form one speaker is transformed into an electronic signal when it gets into the mobile phone.
