The career I have chosen is an Automotive Service Technician. Just to make sure everyone understands; an Automotive Service Technician is the proper term for a mechanic. Automotive service technician are the people that repair your cars and keeping them running properly through-out the life of that car. In this career you will need the right schooling and cannot jump the gun.

The invention of the automobile dates all the way back to the mid 18th century with the development of the first steam powered automobile by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot. As time went on in history other types of automobiles were developed to enhance the transportation system in the United States. The cost to develop all these different types of automobiles over the years was very expensive, which caused the cost to purchase any type of automobile to be too expensive as well. At first it was a luxury type item, that only the rich and powerful could own because many could not afford to purchase any types of automobiles developed at the time. Cars were suppose to have a big impact on the United States of America. Towards the end of the 1800’s it was perfected in Germany and France by some men. Their names are Nicolaus Otto, gottlieb Daimler, Carl Benz, and Emile Levassor.

“It’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt,” is something I have heard constantly ever since my hot wheel days. Now as I have grown into a young adult cars are something I eat, breath, and dream about cars. As I got older, I constantly am modifying and making sure my car is always clean as glass. I enjoy being around cars, there is always the jeopardies of being a car enthusiast are always being annoyingly cautious of cars, having constant money issues, and also getting into trouble.

Becoming a mechanic is something that I have always wanted to do, and something that I plan on becoming. I am going to Grant Career Center to get my ASE certification in automotive mechanics so I can pursue a future in mechanics. The availability of jobs is great with over 39,000 jobs are expected to open up in the next 10 years. It is also a well paying job with the top educated employees taking home over $70,000. There is no schooling required to become a mechanic, however, if you complete more schooling there is a much better chance of landing a job with a higher salary and better benefits. Becoming an automotive mechanic is something that I foresee as being my future career.

The need for cheap and efficient means of travel coupled with the development of motor vehicles has seen a rapid growth in the automotive industry. The automotive industry encompasses all the companies and activities involved in the manufacture of motor vehicles, including most components, such as engines and bodies (Encyclopædia Britannica, 2014). Even though much of the manufacturing nowadays is done by robots, computers and machines, the strongest and most luxurious vehicles are still considered to be the ones that have had the most human involvement and effort applied on them. This makes simple tools such as the cordless hand drill necessitous in the entire process because of their wide range of uses and applications which will be further discussed in this report. Hand drills today, are used in almost every industry that involves assembling individual components to make a complete structure however, this report will focus on the design of a cordless hand drill specifically for the automotive industry.
