Introduction The transportation industry has been evolving over the past 1000’s of years. Transportation industry has played a pivotal role in defining and developing business solutions, managing volatile consumer behavior and supporting the complex logistics networks Change in economic conditions has steered the evolution and growth patterns in this industry. This paper will focus on how the changing economic conditions and business environment has impacted the transportation industry. As transportation industry is a wide subject, to support my hypotheses, I have focused my analysis on three prime categories: • Personal transportation • Commercial transportation and • Industrial transportation Personal Transportation: To provide my analysis on the impact to personal transportation, I have selected the car segment. The demand for personal transportation has been increasing since its invention. The rate of increase is primarily attributed to the population growth. In addition, there are few additional factors that have changed the demand for personal transportation e.g. increase of nuclear families, increase of women to the workforce demographics, Gen Y and beyond becoming more independent; growing distances between home and work; lifestyle pace etc. The ever increasing need for more personal transport has increased number of manufacturers in car industry and also has added new support businesses – repair centers, distribution centers, and ancillary businesses etc.
