Ryerson University is an innovative and technology based university, located in the downtown Toronto area. Ryerson is known for its use of technology throughout the university and technology based programs. According to recent events however, certain faculty members and students have begun to doubt this claim. Students and faculty members have found certain areas of Ryerson’s technology resources, which are filled with many errors and are overall dysfunctional. This has created a big gap in what Ryerson University stands for and its image around the world. The purpose of this report is to identify and explain the problems Ryerson University is having with their technology-based resources. This includes Ryerson’s website Blackboard and …show more content…
This problem may be resulting due to various reasons. For one, the difference between professor and student accounts may create a barrier. Secondly, the lack of innovation in software has been unsuccessful in merging the two types of accounts. This has been a common issue seen by all professors and faculty members throughout Ryerson. The following issue in which only certain information is displayed can be extremely problematic in terms of communication. As a result, professors may post material that lacks critical aspects. For example, a professor may send out guidelines for an assignment to his or her students that may be unclear due to certain information being omitted. This may result in lower grades for students because they are unable to successfully complete assignments due to missing instructions. Students Are Not Allowed to “Resubmit” Assignments Before Due Date Another issue students face when using Blackboard is not being able to submit an assignment multiple times, as it only allows you one opportunity (Christopher Newport University, 2008). Many students tend to revise their assignments and resubmit them, unfortunately Blackboard does not provide students with that option. Although the professor can clear the assignment allowing students to resubmit, it is a time consuming
Technology is a gateway for students to further their understanding of literally any subject he or she may desire, and it allows students to connect better with their professors to also gain a better understanding of the subject he or she may be learning. Although bullying and harassment are indeed two darker sides to technology, they are two problems that are easily corrected, provided the correct steps are taken to do so. Technology is a fantastic way for students to connect to their schools from anywhere and at any
Instructors can set up SafeAssignments" in their courses on Blackboard and let students submit papers to complete these assignments, in a way very similar to the one provided currently by Blackboard
Post to the Assignments area of Blackboard, and bring a hardcopy to class to turn in.
Society is becoming more reliant upon technology every day. Technology is found in hospitals, banks, grocery stores, homes, and schools across the nation. As technology becomes more prevalent in the classroom, teachers need to learn how to use it effectively. Differentiating instruction, facilitating learning, enhancing communication, and facilitating instruction are all appropriate ways to use technology in the classroom (Standards for Teachers). Once these types of technology are mastered, student performance, creativity, and thirst for knowledge should begin to increase.
In Nate Stulman’s essay “The Great Campus Goof-Off Machine”, Stulman creates the primary argument that the overall use of computers by students may be detrimental to their higher education. Readers are made weary by his accusations and are therefore put off by his argument from the beginning of his essay. With a string of negative discourse against the use of computers being the primary tool for a student’s learning, Stulman produces an unconvincing justification of his argument. Through the process of Stulman developing his argument, he aims the blame on both students and colleges, but his argument is not clearly directed. Overall Stulman’s essay delivery is unsuccessful due to insufficient evidence, alienation of the reader, and the production
As an advocate for technology in higher education, I have heard similar warnings for years. Indeed, some who read Carr’s article may believe that he has hit the nail on the head. There is no question that our habits are changing. The Web has captured our attention and is now the default starting point for almost all work. The Web is different in almost all aspects from a book. Printed books have contained the essential truths of humanity for half a millennium. The Web is where we look for knowledge
I have two main priorities in my life right now which are school and football, which brings me to reason why am I still here at the University of Dubuque? I seem too ask myself if I’ll choose to continue my education and career in football at the University of Dubuque the experience was pretty good with the people I met and I am not really getting distracted from things that are stopping me from getting my work done but it just doesn’t feel right here and my luck here hasn’t been the best either. But as long as I can focus here for the year than I can transfer next year. Which is part of the reason why I am here to play football, it keeps me reminded on what’s really important to me. Can of course that thing is school. Without the grades I

Finally, the investment of this project will have great social impacts on students in Ryerson. The Architecture building typically closes at 7:30 PM. To save electricity, Ryerson turns off the lights. This stages as a problem for commuter students who stay at school in the night to take advantage of its facilities. By introducing free and renewable solar energy to the ARC, students will have more time to study at school. As result, their academic performance will improve. Also, the money saved yearly from solar panels can be put towards increasing Ryerson’s facilities. For example, the lighting around Quad at night, and the number of vending machines in Kerr Hall can be improved. About 130 students make Kerr Hall their home during exams. There
The purpose of this report is to highlight some of the student organizations that develops my career in the long run. Furthermore, I want to explore the different pathways that can help enhance my future. Throughout my research, I try to explore all organizations that best develop my interests and strengths. For example, I’m good at accounting, so I try to search up clubs that involve Accounting. One of the student organizations that I found that interest me is the Ryerson University Accounting Society (RUAS). Their main website is at http://www.ruas.ca/. In addition, they have other Social Medias we can check out for more updates regarding this student organization. The RUAS is a group of passionate student leaders and experienced advisors who share a common vision of accounting inside and outside of
Each province has its own quality assurance system for higher education in Canada. These systems may be managed on behalf of universities, institutions, provincial or educational organizations. Although the method is different, the purpose is the same. However, in the past decade, many countries have emphasized the higher education opportunities that are needed to expand. In order that these opportunities could increase rapidly the number of universities and the degree programs. the global university enrollment rate (university ratio of university students) ranges from 14% to 20 years up to 2012. This proportion reaches 32%. This rapid popularization has led many new countries to take new actions that improve the quality of education. The university
Waterloo Collegiate doesn’t have any air conditioning, in the warm months it gets really hot and gross in the school, not to mention the amount of stairs we need to climb to get to class and the speed we need to take them to get there on time, the last thing you want to do is go walking into class all sweaty and red. Over the years I’ve been at WCI I have been stopped numerous times as well as many of my friends because of the clothes they wear to school during the warm months. I have been stopped for wearing a spaghetti strap tank top because you can see my bra straps, well everyone knows females wear bras so why is this such a huge thing that you can see the strap, it’s not a shock that girls wear them. Another thing is they say you can’t
It seems that technology is growing, improving, and changing at an exponential rate. Technology now affects every part of our lives from the time we get up to the time we go to bed, and even as we sleep. One of the major areas that has been affected by technology is education. At one time, the only option for students to complete their education was in a traditional classroom setting. There has become a major need for non-traditional education because there has been a growth in the amount of non-traditional students that exist in our society. The advancement of technology has
Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
