There are so many things I I specifically chose this internship experience because previously, I held internships at Flood Law, a defense law firm, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and I figured this internship is a progression. I was definitely interested in exploring the different areas in law to figure out what it is that I wanted and did not want to do and this internship, by far has helped me do that. There are a variety of reasons that I am highly interested in becoming a community assistant for Barrett, The Honors College. As a Barrett student I have found that the Barrett community is one that is both inclusive and inspiring. It is my hope that as a community assistant I could help extend and enhance the unique Barrett community in the residence halls. Furthermore, I want to be a valuable resource and mentor for Barrett students. Additionally, I want to be a community assistant because service is something I am passionate about. Serving the Barrett community and its residents is something that I would thoroughly enjoy and excel at. I have gotten a taste of what it means to be a part of and a leader of the Barrett residential community through the Barrett Residential Council. From since I was a young child I have always wanted to go into the field of Human Services. As I have grown I have decided that I would go into the Criminal Justice side of Human Services. By this I mean that I still want to help people, but I want to help people who have become criminals or who are on the path of becoming criminals. I especially want to help children and teens who have been in and out of a Juvenal Detention Center. From this passion I have decided that I want to go into one of three careers. These careers are as follows; Juvenile Defense Attorneys, Juvenile Counselor, or Juvenile Corrections Officer.
Ambassador. Eisenhower has given me the opportunity to participate in the InspirEd Internship. This internship allows me to work within a local law firm under the lawyer Mr. Chiligiris. Through this program, I have been able to gain a better understanding of the process of the law and see the court in action. I am able to assist Mr. Chiligiris in the preparation for his court cases, as well as aid him in researching previous court decisions. The school’s ability to provide students with internships allows me to gain experience in the law field and it helps me to be able to attain future internship opportunities.
