A Career In Physical Therapy

For my career I chose, physical therapy. The reason I had chose this to be my career, is because I love to help people. What I’d like to learn about this career is how many different ways I can learn to help people. One thing I read up on about physical therapy is that, there are different types of physical therapy. They vary from a patient working to recover mobility lost after a stroke needs to a patient who is recovering from a sports injury (Bureau of Labor Statistics). The thing I love most about helping out people is setting a goal for myself and the patient. Without goals, you feel like you have nothing to look forward on and achieve to help gain strength and mobility. Dexterity is the ability to use your hands to perform manual therapy on your patients. Physical Stamina is being able to spend a lot of time on your feet and move around a lot. You not should be physically fit, but physically active also. Compassion mean to have a strong desire to do something. If you don’t have compassion about helping people, physical therapy isn’t your line of duty. You need to have interpersonal skills because you will have to establish a bond with your patients, read the patient's body language, and convince them to do the exercises you prescribe to help them. In addition to interpersonal skills, you need communication skills, which means that you need to have great speaking and listening skills. The reason you need great communication skills is because you need to understand and listen to your patients needs and concerns. The two skills that will enable you to diagnose your patients and to analyze how much your treatment affects them is analytical and observational skills. Last but not least, reading comprehension. The reason you need reading comprehension is you need to be able to understand written instructions by other health care professionals like physicians
